About the Job

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a similar engineering discipline is required.
  • At least 6 years of industry-leading electronics design experience, emphasizing densely populated, tightly packaged power-control and power-delivery systems in embedded electronics.
  • Proficiency in engineering processes across all design phases and ability to lead hardware design and development from concept through mass-production release.
  • System-level design engineering skill, including creating designs that meet product requirements and collaborating with product and engineering teams to make design trade-offs and selections while minimizing errors.
  • Power-supply design and selection experience, including switch-mode supplies (buck, boost, buck/boost, and flyback), circuit operation, and component selection for custom applications; strong high-voltage power-supply design background.
  • Demonstrated ownership of electronics architecture, design, integration, and verification testing in several of these areas: embedded microcontrollers; switch-mode and linear power regulators; power-delivery networks; motor controllers; FLASH/EEPROM memory subsystems; USB, UART, SPI, and I2C interfaces; high-power interfaces; battery applications and chargers; high-power LED and driver design; and RF subsystem integration.
  • Experience designing for electromagnetic compatibility and protecting circuitry against electromagnetic interference and electrostatic discharge, including familiarity with EMI/ESD filtering and protection techniques and snubber circuitry design.
  • Ability to collaborate with firmware engineers to develop and debug embedded electronic systems.
  • Hands-on proficiency bringing up, characterizing, and debugging electronics using laboratory tools such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, multimeters, and custom jigs.
  • Schematic-design skills using industry-leading tools, including bill-of-materials development; experience developing rigid, flex, and rigid-flex printed circuit board designs.
  • Ability to lead and collaborate with printed circuit board and mechanical design engineers to develop layouts aligned with design requirements.
  • Experience supporting products through regulatory-compliance testing.
  • Ability to independently develop products within cross-functional, geographically diverse engineering teams.
  • Proficiency with documentation, analysis, and presentation tools, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

  • Research, propose, and develop circuit designs for TASER energy weapons, TASER-enabled devices, wirelessly connected TASER products, and related accessories.
  • Design, develop, and verify system circuitry and hardware against project objectives and requirements.
  • Use OrCAD Schematic tools to design embedded mixed-signal circuitry integrating high-voltage power supplies; microcontrollers; flashlight, indication, and display circuitry and drivers; FLASH/EEPROM memory; switch-mode and linear power supplies; batteries; UART, SPI, I2C, and USB data interfaces; RF transceivers; electromechanical transducers; and other discrete digital and analog components.
  • Collaborate with printed circuit board designers on layout implementation and review designs for signal integrity, power integrity, manufacturability, and reliability using Cadence layout tools.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering, technology partner, and manufacturing teams to oversee electronics development from concept through mass production.
  • Lead schematic and layout design inspections to improve design-release quality and product reliability.
  • Develop test methods and test plans to evaluate and validate designs.
  • Bring up, characterize, and debug systems and circuits using oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers, power supplies, high-potential testers, and other lab tools.
  • Evaluate and document design outcomes, test results, and related information, then present findings to design teams for review and action.
  • Support regulatory-compliance efforts, including FCC, CE, and IEC, through design practices and debugging.
  • Optimize electronics-design performance using simulation tools and hands-on measurements.
  • Develop, evaluate, and help finalize assembly drawings, bills of materials, Gerber files, and other product-release documentation.
  • Partner with the new product introduction team to develop and define test-requirements documentation for printed circuit board assembly board-level testers and system functional test fixtures on the production line.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team knowledge sharing.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience designing tightly packaged, handheld embedded systems powered by rechargeable batteries, including embedded microcontroller development and integration of electromechanical components such as solenoids.
  • Experience with Cadence/OrCAD.
  • Experience developing custom magnetics for high-voltage power supplies is a significant plus.

About the Company
