Composites sustainability wins: Factory of the Future, TÜV SÜD verification, measurable circularity committments. Arclin, Teijin Aramid, Armacell and Envalior celebrate sustainability wins with EcoVadis, ISCC Plus and Factory of the Future designations. Senior Managing Editor, CompositesWorld and Products Finishing Meet some of the companies - Arclin, Teijin Aramid and Armacell - that are serving the composites industry through continuous improvement of their sustainable performance. Arclin composite materials production facility earns ISCC Plus. Global material science company Arclin's (Alpharetta, Ga., U.S.) Kevlar, Kevlar Exo and Nomex production facilities at the Spruance manufacturing plant in Richmond were awarded certification from the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification System (ISCC Plus). Learn to cut the cost and time of tooling. CW's editors are tracking the latest trends and developments in tooling, from the basics to new developments. This collection, presented by Composites One, features recent CW stories that detail a range of tooling technologies, processes and materials. Download Collection The Spruance facility is the second Arclin aramids site to earn ISCC certification, following the Asturias manufacturing plant in 2025 - demonstrating Arclin's commitment to advancing sustainability and building out global capabilities to offer products made with sustainable raw materials. Since 2022, Kevlar, Kevlar Exo and Nomex have been produced with renewable electricity, through the purchase of renewable energy credits (RECs) and Guarantees of Origin (GOs) to match the energy consumed in operations annually. Arclin's Asturias manufacturing site added a 12.6 megawatt peak on-site solar array for self-consumption in 2025, featuring more than 22,000 solar panels. Teijin Aramid achieves EcoVadis Platinum, enters the top 1%. In March 2026, Teijin Aramid (Arnhem, Netherlands) was awarded the EcoVadis Platinum Medal. The company achieved a score of 88 out of 100 in the latest evaluation, up from 80 out of 100 in 2025. The eight-point improvement reflects substantial progress across the company's full spectrum of sustainability performance. The Platinum Medal confirms measurable advances in aramid recycling, emissions reduction and responsible sourcing. It also reflects the company's continued work to expand circularity, strengthen value chain transparency and uphold high ethical and social standards. With the new rating in place, Teijin Aramid will continue to scale up circular aramid programs, invest in sustainable production technologies, expand renewable energy use and further enhance traceability across its supply chain. Armacell awarded Factory of the Future label by Agoria. Armacell's (Luxembourg) Thimister-Clermont facility has been officially recognized by Agoria (Belgium) as a Factory of the Future - a label celebrating manufacturing sites that lead in digitalization, sustainability, innovation and operational excellence. The Thimister-Clermont site features customized production lines, 3,000-plus real-time data points and a manufacturing execution system. The achievement marks a milestone in Armacell's Industry 4.0 journey and coincides with the 20th anniversary of ArmaPET, the company's circular PET foam technology. Independent critical review by TÜV SÜD verifies Envalior LCA product data. Envalior (Düsseldorf, Germany) has completed an independent critical review of life cycle assessments (LCAS) across four of its product lines, carried out by international third-party testing, inspection and certification organization TÜV SÜD (Munich, Germany). Review of the LCAs - covering the majority of products in the Durethan PA6 conventional and recycled-based, Pocan PBT, Tepex dynalite thermoplastic composites (TPC) and Xytron PPS ranges - marks a key milestone in Envalior's CARES sustainability strategy and supports more accurate climate reporting for customers. Each LCA takes a cradle-to-gate approach, capturing environmental impacts from raw material extraction through to the production of finished pellets. Factors covered include energy consumption, water use, resource depletion and climate impact across the full upstream value chain. By assessing these impacts, Envalior can verify the effectiveness of sustainability measures and share the data with customers. Submitting LCA studies to external critical review by TÜV SÜD confirms that the methodology used to collect the data they contain meets the best practice requirements of ISO 14040/14044 standards. It also confirms the use of appropriate and reliable data and provides a transparent and balanced interpretation of the results. This rigorous process ensures the quality of data by providing a critical review from a third party, confirming that Envalior's LCA calculations provide a representative assessment of the potential environmental impacts of final products up to the point of sale. This means that the LCA studies can support customer environmental reporting and science-based target-setting. The LCA data can be used as inputs for activities including: * Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) * Product Carbon Footprints (PCFs) * Value chain (Scope 3) emissions mapping * Eco-design and material selection * Sustainability reporting and CSRD disclosures. Envalior's internal LCA policy ensures that reference data is reviewed and updated periodically, meaning that LCA and PCF calculations reflect the latest available information. As it enlarges its LCA reporting scope, Envalior will provide customers with increasingly comprehensive, science-based insights into the environmental performance of its products.
