Requirements
  • A degree from a school or college approved by the American Occupational Therapy Association is required.
  • A current Certified Occupational Therapy certification is required.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support certification is required.
Responsibilities
  • Evaluate, plan, direct, and administer occupational therapy treatment modalities prescribed by a licensed physician.
  • Administer occupational therapy treatments and agents to restore function and prevent disability.
  • Assist patients in reaching their maximum performance and functioning within their capabilities.
  • Direct certified occupational therapy staff, including Occupational Therapy Assistants, Occupational Therapy Aides, certification applicants, and students.
  • Observe and evaluate treatment effectiveness and recommend changes to the physician when needed.
  • Assess and reassess patients across neonate, pediatric, adolescent, geriatric, and general patient populations.
  • Formulate teaching plans based on identified learning needs and evaluate their effectiveness, including family education as appropriate.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and proficiency in occupational therapy modalities.
  • Treat patients and families with respect and dignity and address their psychosocial needs.
  • Safely and correctly manage and operate equipment while maintaining department cleanliness and safety.
  • Involve patients and families in forming the plan of care.
  • Communicate appropriately with physicians, staff, and the administrative team.
  • Coordinate and direct patient care to ensure patient needs are met and hospital policy is followed.
  • Maintain records related to personnel and department operations.
  • Consult other departments to collaborate in patient care and performance improvement activities.
  • Meet current documentation standards and policies.
  • Assist with orientation and in-service training for certified department staff.
  • Evaluate certified staff, including interviewing, hiring, evaluating, and terminating staff.
  • Maintain regulatory requirements, including Joint Commission, state, and federal regulations and standards.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Participate in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activities.
  • Communicate the facility's mission, ethics, and goals and the department's focus statement.
  • Comply with organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
Desired Qualifications
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Basic knowledge of physical medicine, occupational therapy modalities, anatomy and physiology.
  • Basic knowledge of physical therapy machine operation, maintenance, and repair.
  • Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
  • Additional languages.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
