Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation, or Control from an accredited college or university is required.
  • Eight to fourteen years of Controls Engineering experience, including at least five years of relevant experience in PLC hardware design and software programming, is required.
  • Knowledge of applicable standards and best practices in DCS design, including hardware design, software logic, user interface design, control cubicle design, and cybersecurity solutions, is required.
  • Knowledge of global cybersecurity standards such as IEC 62443 and NERC-CIP is required.
  • Experience with control-system tools based on Rockwell Automation, Mark VIe, Siemens, ABB, or Emerson is required.
  • Experience with tools including RSLogix, Studio 5000, FT View, Control ST, Cimplicity, Workstation ST, SCALA, and SICAM is required.
  • Good command of written and spoken English is mandatory for global stakeholder and customer management.
Responsibilities
  • Perform project execution activities for control-system design within the Hydro Control System Center of Excellence.
  • Perform hardware and software design for hydro control-system packages using proprietary DCS or third-party control solutions.
  • Design power-plant control systems, networking, and cybersecurity solutions involving programmable logic controllers, input/output devices, server configuration and deployment, network architectures, switch configuration, and troubleshooting.
  • Install and configure servers, managed network switches, routers, and firewalls for power-plant control environments.
  • Define virtual local area networks and network segmentation.
  • Read process notices, create Functional Analysis documents, perform software programming and logic development, and create static and dynamic mimics according to P&IDs and standard faceplates.
  • Configure human-machine interfaces, alarm displays, and software simulations.
  • Configure soft input/output for communication protocols including Modbus, IEC 61850, IEC 60870-5-104, and DNP3.
  • Perform interlocking design and wiring-principle work.
  • Test control panels at GE Vernova workshops or supplier premises and support factory acceptance testing.
  • Perform contract analysis, concept design, reverse engineering, and work-statement preparation.
  • Document technical data generated for assigned projects.
  • Review supplier documents, including input/output lists, P&IDs, and partner data, and prepare or update input/output lists.
  • Create supplier technical specifications for BTS or BTP DCS solutions, coordinate with suppliers, and conduct technical follow-up.
  • Prepare and update logic programs and HMI mimic views according to P&IDs and standard faceplates.
  • Prepare and update OMM documents.
  • Track project schedules and implementation plans.
  • Travel occasionally for short-term technical discussions, design follow-up, testing, and factory acceptance testing at customer and supplier premises.
  • Conduct site surveys, map existing systems, and compile design inputs.
  • Prepare decommissioning and dismantling manuals and system requirements.
  • Perform interface engineering and provide site support.
  • Develop standards and design-practice guides and apply them to projects.
  • Collaborate with global teams on project-execution activities.
  • Deliver training programs to internal and external customers.
  • Work on quality and productivity improvements and cost-reduction actions.
Desired Qualifications
  • Industry experience in power, large engineering-procurement-construction, or oil and gas is preferred.
  • Experience with Rockwell Automation or Mark VIe control systems is preferred; similar experience with Siemens, ABB, Emerson, or other reputable DCS systems is acceptable.
  • Exposure to the cybersecurity domain is advantageous.
  • Ability to manage and resolve conflicts in a fast-paced project-execution environment.
  • Ability to clearly communicate and listen.
  • Ability to guide and motivate fellow team members.

SHINE joins GE Vernova ARPA-E project to modernise nuclear fuel recycling accountability with AI

SHINE is joining a GE Vernova-led project funded by the Department of Energy's Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy to develop modernised nuclear material tracking systems for fuel recycling facilities. The project aims to use artificial intelligence to optimise spent nuclear fuel tracking and measurement. As a subcontractor, SHINE is developing improved sensor deployment and AI-powered material-tracking systems for nuclear fuel recycling facilities. The technology, called Monochromatic Assays Yielding Enhanced Reliability (MAYER), is designed to track and measure nuclear material in real time, feeding information into a virtual digital twin. The system aims to replace current methods involving redundant instrumentation, manual sampling, and periodic shutdowns for inventory checks. SHINE's participation supports its broader goal of building a commercial nuclear fuel recycling facility in a lower-security regulatory category.

GE Vernova's wind orders plunge 40% as AI-driven gas turbine boom masks segment's struggles

GE Vernova holds $176B backlog yet stock dips 5% as wind losses and spending increases spook investors

GE Vernova, General Electric's former energy division spun off in 2024, reported a $176.3 billion backlog in Q2 2026, up 37% year-over-year. The company's growth has been driven by expanding cloud, AI, and data centre markets requiring increased power infrastructure. Total orders surged 89% in the first half of 2026, with Power and Electrification segments rising 99% and 131% respectively. GE Vernova expects full-year revenue growth of 19% to 22%. Despite strong performance, shares declined 5% over the past month whilst the S&P 500 gained 3%. The pullback followed Q2 results where adjusted EBITDA and earnings per share missed Wall Street expectations due to increased capacity spending and additional losses in the Wind division.

GE Vernova books $176B backlog with 134% gas order growth as Eaton rides 65% data center surge

GE Vernova and Eaton released second-quarter 2026 results highlighting surging demand from AI infrastructure buildout. Vernova reported $5.50 billion in Power segment revenue with gas equipment orders up 134% organically. The company booked $2.7 billion in data centre orders during the quarter alone and expects to reach at least 125 gigawatts of gas equipment under contract by year-end. Total backlog stands at $176 billion. Eaton posted revenue of $8.531 billion, up 21.39%, with adjusted earnings per share of $3.15. Data centre revenue grew roughly 65% in both its Electrical Americas and Electrical Global divisions. The Boyd Thermal liquid-cooling business, acquired for $9.55 billion in March, generated $432 million in second-quarter revenue. Vernova guided free cash flow to $11.5 billion to $12.5 billion, whilst Eaton raised its full-year earnings guidance to $13.40 to $13.60 per share.
