Requirements
  • A Bachelor's Degree in marketing or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • At least 3 years of total experience in a catering setting or related field, including direct supervisory experience over a sales or catering team, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Work experience in hotels.
  • Fluent English-speaking ability.
  • Ability to frequently stand or move within and outside the facility.
  • Ability to carry or lift items weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to handle objects.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with guests, employees, and third parties.
  • Reading and writing ability for paperwork, management reports, interpreting results, giving and receiving instructions, and training.
  • Mathematical skills including basic math, budgeting, profit and loss concepts, percentages, and variances.
  • Problem-solving, reasoning, motivating, organizational, and training abilities.
  • Ability to travel to workshops, trade shows, conventions, and similar events.
  • May require a valid driver's license.
  • May be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Alcohol awareness certification and/or a food service permit or valid health or food handler card as required by the applicable local or state government agency.
Responsibilities
  • Assist in overseeing all functions of the Conference and Convention Services Department.
  • Ensure conferences, meetings, and group activities are coordinated and managed within client expectations.
  • Upsell client events and manage function space and room-block inventory to maximize hotel profit.
  • Ensure the hotel and client fulfill group contract commitments.
  • Assist in directing the day-to-day activities of the conference and convention services team, including planning, organizing, assigning work, and communicating goals.
  • Advise staff of formal policies and procedures.
  • Ensure staff are properly trained and have the tools and equipment needed to perform their job functions.
  • Schedule conventions and business group activities and coordinate with hotel departments to facilitate services agreed upon by the sales office and prospective clients.
  • Conduct banquet and catering facility tours and entertain clients in accordance with company and property policy.
  • Assist clients with menu planning, food and beverage coordination, table arrangements, and decoration options.
  • Arrange convention details including room setups, staging, lighting, audiovisual services, traffic flow, menus, décor, entertainment, group room blocks, VIP services, and approved payment methods.
  • Review daily charge postings and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Follow up to ensure client satisfaction.
  • Negotiate food and beverage prices, function space, and hotel services within approved departmental booking guidelines.
  • Plan and conduct pre-event and post-event meetings with clients and catering staff.
  • Assist with completing forecasts, plans, and sales production reports for management.
  • Monitor and ensure functions are set up, refreshed, and broken down according to scheduled times and department procedures.
  • Promote teamwork and quality service through daily communication and coordination with other departments.
  • Interact with guests to ensure total satisfaction.
  • Coordinate with vendors to arrange services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
