Requirements
  • A B.S., M.S., or PhD in Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline is required.
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in chemical process development is required.
  • High proficiency with bench-top synthesis methods and laboratory practices is required.
  • Basic analytical chemistry experience with NMR, HPLC, GC-MS, and FTIR is required.
  • Ability to work hands-on in laboratory, fabrication, and plant environments is required.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs is required.
  • Must be a U.S. Person and able to obtain a security clearance.

Responsibilities
  • Identify, design, and execute rigorous lab experiments, generating reliable data for reaction and unit-operation design and scale-up.
  • Develop and optimize core synthesis and downstream processing, evaluate technical pathways, and justify decisions using experimental results, process modeling, cost, and scale-up constraints.
  • Become the subject-matter expert on selected reaction steps and unit operations using research, vendor insight, and experiments.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the manufacturing process and support design and optimization of the pilot and demonstration plants.
  • Integrate hazard analysis and thermal and stability considerations into development with a rigorous process-safety mindset.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with continuous-flow or microreactor chemistry and reaction scale-up.
  • Analytical chemistry experience for quality control, including familiarity with method development on HPLC, IC, NMR, ICP-OES/MS, DSC/TGA, or similar methods.
  • Ability to assemble, modify, and troubleshoot lab- and pilot-scale systems.
  • Prior experience developing energetic materials, propellants, or other regulated or high-hazard chemistries, or transferable process-chemistry experience from pharma, fine or specialty chemicals, or CDMO process development.
  • Practical mechanical and industrial-site experience with pilot-scale and larger process equipment and plant troubleshooting.
