Harness buys Augment Code assets to launch Cosmos AI coding platform.

Harness buys Augment Code assets to launch Cosmos AI coding platform. Harness just added an AI coding layer to its DevOps platform. The company acquired select assets from Augment Code and used them to build the Harness Cosmos Software Factory. Get Free Daily Insights to Stay Ahead in Your Entrepreneurial Journey. Table of Contents What Harness got. The acquired assets include Cosmos, a set of AI coding agents, an Auggie command line interface, and a Code Context Engine. These components now form the foundation of the new Software Factory offering inside the Harness portfolio. The stated goal. According to Harness CEO Jyoti Bansal, the overall goal is to give DevOps teams an integrated set of tools that spans the entire software development lifecycle. The Cosmos acquisition fills the AI coding gap in that stack. Teams will have the option to deploy the Harness Cosmos Software Factory or continue using other AI coding tools. Harness is positioning this as an addition to its portfolio, not a forced migration. Why it matters. For DevOps teams already inside the Harness ecosystem, a native AI coding agent with a CLI and a context engine means fewer context switches between tools. Whether it competes meaningfully with standalone AI coding assistants depends on how tightly it integrates with the rest of the Harness SDLC toolchain. Harness acquires Augment Code assets to advanced autonomous SDLC.

Harness acquires Augment Code assets to advanced autonomous SDLC. Harness today announced that it has acquired select Augment Code assets, including Cosmos and the Auggie CLI products, the Code Context Engine, and related technology. Cosmos, Augment Code's software factory, was built to run fleets of autonomous agents that handle repetitive tasks such as code review, ticket assignments, incident investigations and more, under the watch of software engineers. Those capabilities will be joined by Harness' own agents for software delivery, security testing and runtime protection and cost management, to create what will become the Harness Cosmos Software Factory. The goal, Harness wrote in its announcement, is to automate engineering work "from idea to code." Meanwhile, Harness is tying Connecting Augment's Code Context Engine with Harness's Software Delivery Knowledge Graph to provide observability and insight across the SDLC. Pairing understanding of the code with delivery context helps Harness make change decisions up front while agents "can use downstream findings to correct and verify them," Harness wrote. "AI's impact on software will not be measured by how much code it generates, but by how much valuable software reaches customers," said Jyoti Bansal, founder and CEO of Harness. The AI-native software delivery platform "Augment Code built Cosmos to create a software factory for repeatable engineering work. With this acquisition, we are bringing code context together with delivery and production context to help agents make better changes from the start. When Harness downstream agents identify an issue while testing, securing, or deploying code, they send it back to Cosmos with the context to fix it." Auggie CLI enables users to put Augment's agent and context engine directly into an engineer's terminal, either in an interactive terminal session or in any part of the development stack. Shared context from code to production. The asset acquisition, the company wrote, further builds out the Harness platform for automating engineeing work: * * Software Delivery Agent moves changes safely to production * Security Testing Agent finds and fixes risk before production * Runtime Protection Agent protects applications, APIs, and AI in production * Cost Management Agent controls and optimizes cloud and AI cost. SD Times Q&A. What did Harness acquire from Augment Code? Harness acquired select assets from Augment Code, including the Cosmos software factory, the Auggie CLI, and the Code Context Engine. These assets are being integrated into the Harness platform to automate engineering work across the full software development lifecycle. The acquisition does not appear to include the entire Augment Code company. What is Harness Cosmos Software Factory? Harness Cosmos Software Factory is the combined product resulting from integrating Augment Code's Cosmos platform with Harness's existing autonomous agents. It runs fleets of autonomous agents that handle repetitive engineering tasks such as code review, ticket assignments, and incident investigations, under human oversight. Harness's agents for software delivery, security testing, runtime protection, and cost management are also part of the factory. How does Harness use the Code Context Engine from Augment Code? Harness is connecting Augment Code's Code Context Engine with its own Software Delivery Knowledge Graph to provide observability and insight across the SDLC. This pairing allows agents to make better code change decisions upfront, and downstream agents can send findings back to Cosmos with context to fix and verify issues during testing, securing, or deploying code. What does Auggie CLI do in the Harness platform? Auggie CLI enables software engineers to access Augment Code's agent and Code Context Engine directly from a terminal. It supports both interactive terminal sessions and integration into any part of the development stack, giving developers agent-assisted capabilities at the command line. What autonomous agents does Harness offer for the SDLC? Following the Augment Code asset acquisition, Harness offers four autonomous agents: a Software Delivery Agent for safely moving changes to production, a Security Testing Agent for finding and fixing risks before production, a Runtime Protection Agent for protecting applications, APIs, and AI in production, and a Cost Management Agent for controlling cloud and AI spend. Harness buys select assets of Augment Code to automate software coding.

Harness buys select assets of Augment Code to automate software coding. The acquisition brings Augment Code's Cosmos and Auggie CLI products into Harness, strengthening its push towards autonomous coding, testing, security and software deployment. Jyoti Bansal, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Harness Artificial Intelligence (AI) software delivery platform Harness Inc has bought select assets of AI coding platform Augment Code for an undisclosed amount. This will give the autonomous software development life cycle (SDLC) platform greater control over how machines write code. The deal includes Augment's Cosmos, Auggie CLI products, the code context engine, and related technology. The teams behind these products will join Harness, accelerating its work to make the entire software development lifecycle increasingly autonomous. "With this acquisition, we are extending into the coding cycle. If you have the right context when writing code, you can produce safer and more secure code from the start. Because Harness runs processes across testing, security, compliance, and governance, we have context about how an organisation operates. Bringing that context into coding can improve the code before it reaches later checks," Harness Founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Jyoti Bansal told Business Standard in an interaction. Bansal, well known as the founder of business software company AppDynamics which Cisco bought for about $3.7 billion in 2017, explained his goal is an autonomous SDLC from idea to production. The company, headquartered in San Francisco, is valued at $5.5 billion after its 2025 Series E fundraise of $240 million. "That is what bringing Augment Code into Harness extends. Augment Code has a product called Cosmos, a software factory. An idea or ticket comes in, and a set of agents turns it into code. A developer is brought into the loop when needed. We plan to bring the Cosmos software factory into the Harness platform so the process can run end to end," he added. Harness focuses on the bottlenecks that arise after codes are written. While machines have started generating millions of lines of codes across enterprises, they still have to be checked and tested by humans for guardrails, quality controls, and security to fix vulnerabilities. It thus brings AI to testing, deployment, security, compliance, and cost optimization, which can account for 70-80 per cent of the time after code is written. Asked about the reason for the acquisition, Bansal said agents are only as good as the context they receive. "When coding context is combined with data from testing, security, compliance, and incidents, the AI can write better code from the start. Code may otherwise fail later because of quality or security issues. Bringing that context in earlier is the biggest advantage of connecting the two more closely," he said. Harness, whose clients include Citibank, United Airlines, and PayPal, expects to touch cumulative revenue of about $400 million by the end of 2026, with banking, financial services, and insurance (BFSI) contributing almost 30 per cent. The company has 1,300 people globally, with 500 in India. "We set out to bring AI to the entire SDLC, starting with context-aware coding," said Igor Ostrovsky, cofounder and chief technology officer (CTO) of Augment Code. "Joining Harness is the next step towards that vision. Together, we can make engineering work increasingly autonomous, with engineers stepping in only where judgment really matters," he said.
