About the job
- The candidate must have 20+ years of experience in power generation engineering, with deep experience in combined-cycle and simple-cycle gas.
- The candidate must have directed engineering on at least two gas plants at the FEED or EPC stage with $200M+ capital expenditure, with ownership rather than participation.
- The candidate must hold a Professional Engineer license in Texas; multi-state licensure is ideal.
- The candidate should have a background at a major power EPC or owner-operator.
- The candidate must have run 10+ disciplines in parallel through HAZID, IDC, IFR, and IFI cycles.
- The candidate must have behind-the-meter, islanded, or co-located generation experience, including paralleling, redundancy mapping, and microgrid architecture.
- The candidate should be Houston-based or relocatable.
- Lead the engineering practice across behind-the-meter gas-fired power projects ranging from 200 megawatts to multi-gigawatt scale.
- Serve as the senior engineering counterparty to client CEOs, Heads of Engineering, and Vice Presidents of Projects.
- Stamp FEL-2 and FEED deliverables and defend Class 4 estimates with lenders, investment committees, and incumbent EPCs.
- Build and lead the engineering team, including project directors, senior Professional Engineers, and multidisciplinary leads.
- Architect Candid's dual-team execution model comprising the Project Execution Team and FlowState platform team.
- Shape the platform roadmap with the AI engineering team.
- Hire the project directors.
- Stamp the deliverables.
- Defend Candid against incumbent EPCs on FEED bids.
- Feed back actual project-work needs to shape what the platform team builds.
- Nuclear-adjacent balance-of-plant work, including Vogtle, Palisades, NuScale, BWRX-300, or Stone & Webster.
- Data center critical-power experience at Tier III or Tier IV facilities.
- ERCOT or PJM market familiarity.
- Direct experience with project-finance, investment-committee, or lender engineering review.
