Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in medical technology, Clinical Lab Science, Medical Laboratory Science, Chemical, or Biological field, and current certification as MT (ASCP) or MLS (ASCP) within 90 days of hire; certification and credential maintenance must be maintained for individuals certified after January 1, 2004.
  • Completion of a two-year accredited Medical Laboratory Technician program, MLT (ASCP) or equivalent certification within 90 days of hire, and four years of experience in a clinical laboratory.
  • A bachelor's degree in a Chemical or Biological field and four years of experience as a Medical Laboratory Technician in a clinical laboratory performing testing and related tasks.
  • General knowledge of laboratory terminology, equipment, materials, techniques, regulations, and safety.
  • Skill in handling laboratory specimens, record keeping, and laboratory equipment.
  • Skill in identifying cells and cell morphology.
  • Skill in using several computer systems, including word processing and dedicated laboratory or hospital information systems.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions accurately and operate and maintain standard laboratory equipment.
  • Ability to work independently within established guidelines, adjust to rapidly changing priorities, and apply problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate job duties to trainees.
  • Ability to work in a multitasking environment and display technical skills at many different laboratory workstations.
  • Flexible scheduling, including nights, weekends, and holidays, may be required.
  • Work at multiple laboratory or hospital sites and travel between laboratories and sites may be required.
  • Ability to work around blood and body fluids, chemical hazards, radiation, and personal protective equipment for extended periods may be required.
Responsibilities
  • Perform testing in all sections of the Core Laboratory and Transfusion Services using Erytra, Iris, Sysmex XN 9000, ABL, Beckman Coulter DxC, DxI, Centaur, ACL Tops, and additional instrumentation while following written procedures and policies.
  • Prepare samples for testing, determine specimen and result acceptability, repeat analyses as necessary, and report test results by computer and telephone.
  • Perform computer functions using Beaker, WellSky, and EPIC/Beaker software.
  • Answer telephone requests for laboratory information.
  • Calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and procedures.
  • Perform and evaluate quality control data to determine the functionality of instruments and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Generalist experience in Hematology, Urinalysis, Coagulation, and limited Microbiology within the last two years.
  • Recent experience in Hematology alone.
