CoverMyMeds is a healthcare technology platform that simplifies how patients get prescribed medications by focusing on the prior authorization process. The platform connects healthcare providers, pharmacies, pharmacy benefit managers, and health plans to automate and streamline the approval workflow, reducing manual steps and helping patients receive their medicines more quickly. It works by integrating with each stakeholder’s systems to check requirements, submit necessary documentation, and track the status of approvals in real time, so clinicians and pharmacists can act faster. Compared with other players, CoverMyMeds emphasizes cross‑stakeholder collaboration and end‑to‑end efficiency in the prior authorization process, aiming to lower administrative burdens while maintaining strong privacy and security for patient information. The overall goal is to improve patient access to medications and support better health outcomes by speeding up and simplifying authorization decisions.

What believers are saying

  • March 2026 specialty access launches target oncology and ophthalmology, two high-friction, high-value markets.
  • Automation using EHR data reduces forms, boosts speed to therapy, and supports adoption.
  • Broader 2026 rollout across additional therapeutic areas expands cross-sell beyond retail prescriptions.

What critics are saying

  • March 2026 restructuring cuts teams after 815 layoffs and Arizona closure in 2025.
  • AmeriHealth dropped CoverMyMeds ePA in 2025, signaling payer bypass and network leakage.
  • If Surescripts and payer portals keep absorbing prior auth, CoverMyMeds becomes an expensive middleman.

What makes CoverMyMeds unique

  • McKesson owns CoverMyMeds, giving it payer, pharmacy, and distribution leverage unmatched by startups.
  • Its March 2026 platform unifies medical PA, pharmacy PA, BI, and enrollment.
  • It connects 350+ EHRs, 50,000 pharmacies, and one million providers.

What we learned at HIMSS 2026: the future of specialty care.

What CoverMyMeds LLC. learned at HIMSS 2026: the future of specialty care. HIMSS always provides a snapshot of where healthcare is heading - not in five years, but right now. HIMSS 2026 made one thing impossible to ignore: the industry is in the middle of a pivotal transition, driven by AI, automation and the accelerating complexity of specialty care. Across keynotes, exhibit hall conversations and hands-on demos, the message from health systems, technology leaders and innovators was consistent: specialty care teams need simpler, more connected ways to move patients from prescribing to therapy initiation and their expectations are changing fast. As someone who spends every day working with provider organizations, health systems and EHR partners, this year's conference felt like a clear turning point. Connectivity, interoperability and intelligent automation are now baseline expectations. CoverMyMeds came to HIMSS ready for that shift, and what CoverMyMeds LLC. heard this year reinforced just how essential that work is. Mar 15, 2026 10 min

CoverMyMeds launches integrated platform to streamline specialty therapy access and cut provider admin burden

CoverMyMeds has launched expanded Specialty Access and Affordability Solutions to accelerate patient access to specialty therapies. The new platform integrates benefits investigation, medical and pharmacy prior authorisation, and patient services enrollment into a single workflow. The solution addresses inefficiencies in specialty care, where teams currently use up to nine different applications to help patients access medications. Sixty-three per cent of clinicians identify these responsibilities as the most time-consuming, particularly for complex specialty treatments. The platform automates prior authorisation workflows across medical and pharmacy benefits, using clinical data from electronic health records to complete forms and submit documentation to insurers. It maintains visibility for providers and can integrate with hubs and specialty pharmacies. CoverMyMeds, part of McKesson Corporation, connects over 350 electronic health record systems, 50,000 pharmacies and one million providers.

Ncpdp Foundation Names Covermymeds As Fourth Founder'S Gift Donor

Gift will support research projects for the Coordination of Care and Innovation strategic initiativeSCOTTSDALE, Ariz., June 5, 2024 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The NCPDP Foundation announced today a new partnership with CoverMyMeds to support the Foundation's recently established fourth strategic initiative, which focuses on empowering Coordination of Care and Innovation."The NCPDP Foundation Board felt very strongly that our fourth strategic initiative should reflect the healthcare industry's shift to a team-based care model," said J.W. Hill, MBAHCM, CNED, Executive Director of the NCPDP Foundation. "From pharmacies and physicians to benefits managers and standards-makers like NCPDP, the need is recognized."A more interoperable approach to patient care—the heart of our Coordination of Care and Innovation initiative—is exactly the type of change needed to achieve the Foundation's vision of a healthcare ecosystem that continuously innovates and fully incorporates health information technology as a tool to deliver better outcomes for the common good of all," Hill concluded. While much progress has been made to streamline electronic documentation and information exchange in the last decade, there are still many underexplored opportunities to prove how pharmacists contribute to a patient-centered care model. Innovations that are on the horizon in digital therapeutics and pharmacogenomics will put even more emphasis on everything pharmacists do for patients outside of dispensing. The Founder's Gift for the Coordination of Care and Innovation initiative will support projects that show how pharmacists can close gaps in care."As a leader in breaking down barriers to medication access and affordability, CoverMyMeds understands the importance of collaboration and interoperability in delivering better patient outcomes," said Kristina Crockett, Vice President, Product, CoverMyMeds. "Our investment in research efforts that align with the NCPDP Foundation's Coordination of Care and Innovation initiative reflects our ongoing commitment to helping people get the medicine they need to live healthier lives
