About the company

Nokia makes the equipment and software that mobile carriers, cloud companies, and businesses use to run networks, from cell-tower radios to fiber links between AI data centers. From 1998 to 2011 it was the world's largest mobile phone maker; it sold that business to Microsoft in 2014, and HMD Global, a separate company, makes Nokia-branded phones under license. Its network unit sells optical systems that send data over fiber, internet routers, and broadband gear, and its mobile unit sells radios and the core software that runs 5G networks. Nokia earns money from equipment and service contracts and from licensing its patents to phone makers and carmakers. It was founded in 1865 as a wood pulp mill and is based in Espoo, Finland.

What believers are saying

  • AI builders are a growth engine: AI and cloud customers ordered €2.8 billion from Nokia in the June 2026 quarter.
  • Equity has gained value: Nokia's US shares rose 60% from January to October 2026, while Swedish rival Ericsson's fell 1%.
  • The US is Nokia's top hiring hub: 211 of its 622 open roles in October 2026, versus 19 in Finland.

What critics are saying

  • Cuts are widening: in July 2026, Nokia raised restructuring charges to €800 million from €250 million, targeting Europe and China.
  • Expect office time: only 5 of Nokia's 622 open roles in October 2026 were remote, and 248 were fully on-site.
  • AI is still a small slice: AI and cloud customers made up 9% of Nokia's June 2026 quarter sales.

What makes Nokia unique

  • Nvidia owns 2.9% of Nokia: the companies jointly develop mobile-network software that runs on Nvidia computing hardware.
  • It owns a historic US research lab: Bell Labs, birthplace of the transistor and Unix, lists 10 Nobel Prizes.
  • It manufactures optical chips itself: Nokia owns the San Jose semiconductor plant acquired with US networking firm Infinera.

France network outage puts Nokia under scrutiny as EU pushes to phase out Huawei, ZTE gear.

France network outage puts Nokia under scrutiny as EU pushes to phase out Huawei, ZTE gear. A failure involving one of Europe's two main telecoms equipment suppliers feeds into debate over network resilience and vendor diversity. Discover MORE stories on Published: 3:00pm, 30 Oct 2026 Updated: 3:34pm, 30 Oct 2026 A mobile network outage in France this week has raised questions about the reliability of Finnish telecoms giant Nokia's products against the backdrop of continued European Union efforts to phase out Chinese suppliers Huawei Technologies and ZTE over security concerns. The problem first hit the network of France's biggest telecoms provider Orange at 11.37am on Monday and lasted until 8.30pm, resulting in outages of up to nine hours for some customers, Orange France CEO Jerome Henique told French newspaper Le Figaro. At the core of the outage was a software bug in Nokia's code, Henique said, adding that the flaw was new to Orange and "extremely complicated to find". The bug affected Orange's mobile core network as well as equipment designed to provide redundancy for the core network, making the situation exceptional, according to him. While 4G and 5G services were disrupted, the 3G network remained functional, allowing customers to continue making phone calls and preventing a complete shutdown of services, Henique said. The number of affected customers has yet to be confirmed, but Orange's biggest trade union, CFE-CGC Orange, estimated that 70 per cent of the group's 22 million mobile lines were impacted. "The incident raises questions in particular about network resilience, the diversity of backup solutions, fault detection and crisis communication," the union said in a statement on Tuesday. Orange was seeking several million euros in compensation from Nokia, most likely in the form of discounts on future equipment or services, French media outlet L'informe reported on Wednesday. In a statement to the South China Morning Post on Thursday, the group said its contractual relationships with suppliers and any discussions that could take place remained confidential. Nokia did not respond to a request for comment from the SCMP. While the reported compensation claim would be financially manageable for Nokia, whose annual net sales were around €20 billion (US$22.4 billion) in 2025, the reputational fallout was a bigger concern, according to Tommi Saarinen, an analyst at Helsinki-based research firm Inderes. "The bug was in the mobile core, the most critical part of the network, and it took the backup systems down as well," Saarinen said. "Operators will ask Nokia harder questions about software quality and resilience." Connect Europe - the region's main telecoms industry association which counts Orange among its members - has repeatedly warned about the risks of Brussels' proposed revision of the EU Cybersecurity Act. SCMP Plus is a new premium news platform that gives you an all-inclusive edge to stay ahead on China news. To access our exclusive content you'll need to subscribe. The revised law, known as CSA2, would require operators to remove equipment from "high-risk" suppliers - in practice Huawei and ZTE - from the bloc's telecoms networks. By narrowing the choice of vendors, CSA2 could hinder European providers' ability to ensure network resilience and security, "prolonging or exacerbating systemic risks associated with over-reliance - especially in the event of network-wide failure - that could lead to customer harm while hampering diversification efforts", the group said in a report published in July. Nevertheless, Saarinen said the outage was unlikely to change the vendor landscape in Europe, as operators replacing Chinese equipment still only had two realistic choices: Nokia or Swedish company Ericsson. "The more likely consequence is stricter resilience requirements, such as backup systems that cannot fail for the same reason as the primary ones," he said. Xiaofei joined SCMP in 2025 after four years at CNN's Paris bureau where he covered the rise of far-right forces in France, the economic fallout of the war in Ukraine and many other subjects. Xiaofei has a master's degree in French History from the University of Chicago. related topics

The Nokia 2360 Flip is a dual-display feature phone with an SOS button. HMD has unveiled the Nokia 2360 Flip, its latest feature phone with a clamshell design and the Family Assist feature. Designed with school students and senior citizens in mind, the phone features dual displays and a dedicated SOS button. The Nokia 2360 Flip's main highlight is its Family Assist feature, which allows family members to remotely manage the device. They can add contacts, adjust volume levels, set reminders, and access other settings remotely. It also features a dedicated SOS button on the rear panel. Pressing it calls a pre-set emergency contact and sends an alert message to up to five contacts. However, the Nokia 2360 Flip only supports 2G connectivity, which will limit its usability in regions where 2G networks have been discontinued. In terms of specs, the Nokia 2360 Flip features a 2.8-inch main display and a 1.77-inch external screen. Nokia lumia-inspired HMD Touch AI global launch: 4G, AI features & free accessories! (2026).

Nokia lumia-inspired HMD Touch AI global launch: 4G, AI features & free accessories! (2026). Let me start by asking you this: What if the future of mobile technology isn't in the sleek, always-connected smartphones we've grown addicted to, but in something that feels eerily familiar - like a relic from the early 2010s? That's exactly what's happening with the HMD Touch AI, a device that's sparking both curiosity and confusion in tech circles. It's not just another feature phone; it's a calculated throwback with a twist of AI, and it's poised to challenge our assumptions about what a mobile device should be. Personally, I think this move by HMD is a masterstroke. They're tapping into a niche market that's been quietly growing: people who want simplicity, durability, and a break from the digital overload of modern life. But why now? What makes this particularly fascinating is the timing. We're in an era where AI is everywhere, but it's often tied to expensive, complex devices. Here's a phone that's offering AI features without the frills - or the price tag. From my perspective, this isn't just about nostalgia. It's about redefining what 'smart' means. The Nokia Lumia-inspired design isn't just aesthetic; it's a statement. It's saying, 'We remember when phones were about calling people, not tracking your every move.' The HMD Touch AI's specs are modest by today's standards, but that's the point. A 3.2-inch touchscreen, 2MP camera, and 1,950mAh battery might sound quaint, but they're perfectly suited for a device that prioritizes longevity over flash. What many people don't realize is that feature phones are making a comeback - not just in emerging markets, but among tech-savvy users who crave minimalism. This isn't about rejecting progress; it's about choosing intentionality. One thing that immediately stands out is the inclusion of AI features like the 'Taobao AI Big Model Teen Edition.' At first glance, it sounds like a gimmick, but think about it: This is AI tailored for practicality. No subscriptions, no ads, just a tool to help with payments and QR codes. If you take a step back and think about it, this could be the first step toward democratizing AI. It's not about flashy assistants or generative art - it's about utility. A detail that I find especially interesting is the free 8GB microSD card and accessories included. It's a subtle but powerful move. In an industry where every extra feature is a selling point, HMD is saying, 'We get it. You don't need to pay for storage or protection.' That's not just customer service - it's a rebellion against the capitalist logic of tech. Now, let's talk about the global rollout. Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand - these markets aren't just random choices. They're places where feature phones still hold cultural significance. But what this really suggests is a broader trend: the fragmentation of smartphone adoption. While Western markets are saturated with high-end devices, regions like Southeast Asia are seeing a hybrid approach. People want the basics of a smartphone without the burden of constant updates, data plans, or app clutter. This raises a deeper question: Are we approaching a post-smartphone era? The HMD Touch AI isn't a step backward - it's a pivot. It's a device for those who want to disconnect without sacrificing functionality. And here's the kicker: It's priced at around $70 in China. That's not just affordable; it's revolutionary. In a world where even budget smartphones cost double that, this is a game-changer. What's more, the color options - white and gold - hint at a strategy to appeal to younger demographics, blending retro design with modern aesthetics. But is this just a niche product, or is it the beginning of a movement? I suspect the latter. The rise of AI in feature phones could signal a shift in how we interact with technology. Imagine a future where AI is embedded in devices that don't demand constant attention. It's a vision of tech that serves us, not the other way around. Critics will argue that this is a gimmick, a fleeting attempt to cash in on nostalgia. But I see something more. This is a response to the overwhelming complexity of modern life. We're drowning in notifications, algorithms, and the pressure to be always-on. The HMD Touch AI offers a lifeline - a way to reclaim control. It's not about rejecting the digital age; it's about creating boundaries. And in that sense, it's profoundly human. What this device truly represents is a yearning for simplicity in a world that's becoming increasingly complicated. Whether it's a passing fad or a new paradigm remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: The tech industry is finally listening to the people who've been asking for less, not more. Nokia stock rebounds 6% off support after earnings selloff - is the worst over?

Nokia stock rebounds 6% off support after earnings selloff - is the worst over? - Last updated: Monday, October 26, 2026 Quick overview. * Nokia shares rebounded nearly 6% to €7.77 after a sharp decline of almost 10% last week, despite beating earnings expectations. * The company's revised free cash flow guidance raised concerns, dropping from 55%-75% to 35%-55%, alongside reported negative cash flow of €99 million. * Restructuring costs significantly impacted profitability, with a 22% year-over-year decline in GAAP operating profit to €196 million. * Analysts remain divided on Nokia's outlook, with some maintaining a Hold rating while others see potential for growth, contingent on improved cash generation. Nokia shares rebounded nearly 6% to €7.77 on Monday after plunging almost 10% last week, as investors reassessed an earnings beat against weaker cash flow guidance, rising restructuring costs and a technical breakdown below key support. Nokia stock rebounds after sharp sell-off. Nokia (NYSE: NOK) shares recovered from the €7.20 area to close at €7.77 on Monday, regaining part of the ground lost during Thursday's sharp decline. The stock had plunged nearly 10% after the company released its third-quarter 2026 results, despite beating Wall Street expectations for revenue and adjusted earnings. Adjusted earnings per share reached €0.102, exceeding the €0.070 consensus estimate, while revenue totalled €5.83 billion against forecasts of €5.73 billion. However, the positive surprises failed to reassure investors, who focused instead on weaker cash flow expectations and mounting restructuring expenses. The broader market sell-off added pressure, with the S&P 500 falling 1.4% and the Nasdaq declining 2.2%. Monday's rebound suggests buyers are returning after the steep decline, but the recovery must be sustained before the broader technical outlook improves. Free cash flow guidance raises concerns. The biggest disappointment was Nokia's revised full-year free cash flow conversion guidance, which was reduced to 35%-55% from the previous range of 55%-75%. The company also reported negative free cash flow of approximately €99 million in the third quarter, raising questions about its ability to convert operating profits into cash while financing restructuring and expansion. Nokia expects total restructuring charges to reach €1.1 billion in 2026. Management also plans to deploy another €400 million in working capital this year to secure supplies and prepare for anticipated growth in 2027. These commitments increase near-term financial pressure, even as Nokia seeks to strengthen its position in networking, cloud computing and advanced infrastructure. Investors will want evidence that these investments can support future growth without further weakening cash generation. Restructuring costs pressure profitability. Nokia's reported GAAP operating profit fell 22% year over year to €196 million, reflecting €357 million in restructuring and integration costs. By comparison, adjusted operating profit reached €605 million, highlighting the difference between the company's underlying operating performance and reported profitability. The gap has left investors questioning how quickly Nokia can complete its restructuring programme and whether improved operational efficiency will eventually translate into stronger cash flow. Analyst sentiment remains divided. Bernstein maintained a Hold rating, while another firm reiterated a Buy rating with a $16 price target, reflecting differing views on whether the deterioration in cash generation is temporary or signals a more persistent challenge. Nokia stock tests technical support. The sell-off pushed Nokia below €7.50 and through its 200-day simple moving average, which had provided support since July. The breakdown weakened the technical outlook and indicated that sellers had regained control. The €7.30 area remains an important support reference following the recent decline. A sustained move below it could expose the stock to renewed selling, while Monday's recovery to €7.77 places the €7.50 level back in focus. Holding above €7.50 could help stabilise sentiment and encourage further buying. However, a failure to maintain the recovery could bring the recent lows back into focus. Nokia stock outlook: can buyers sustain the rebound? Nokia's earnings beat and opportunities in cloud and advanced networking provide potential longer-term support. Nevertheless, the reduction in free cash flow guidance and substantial restructuring expenses remain significant concerns. Monday's 6% rebound offers relief after last week's sharp decline, but the recovery alone does not resolve the underlying financial risks. For the rally to continue, investors will need evidence that Nokia can improve cash conversion, control restructuring costs and translate demand for networking infrastructure into sustainable profitability. Until then, the stock remains vulnerable to renewed selling, particularly if it struggles to hold above the €7.50 area. 10 best Forex brokers. | / | MIN DEPOSIT $100 | Visit Now | | / | MIN DEPOSIT $0 | Visit Now | | / | MIN DEPOSIT $100 | Visit Now | | / | MIN DEPOSIT $250 | Visit Now | | / | MIN DEPOSIT $0 | Visit Now | | / | MIN DEPOSIT $2,000 | Visit Now | | / | MIN DEPOSIT $0 | Visit Now | Skerdian Meta Lead Analyst Skerdian Meta Lead Analyst.
