The firm recently raised US$300m at a US$2.4bn valuation. The company has published a blog that details how PhysicsX researchers adapted 3D AI foundation models using physics-guided diffusion loops to bypass traditional CAD constraints and automatically generate optimised engineering geometries. The researchers then demonstrated this by creating a jet engine bracket 18.5% lighter than top human designs. Almost every hard problem in the physical economy - better aircraft, better chips, better engines, better energy systems - comes down to how fast and how well engineers and machine operators can work through the underlying physics. Most engineering workflows rely on parametric CAD, trapping designs within predefined parameters. PhysicsX engineers Daniel Owen-Lloyd and Sanmitra Ghosh note in a blog that 3D foundation models like TRELLIS.2 produce visual assets rather than functional engineering components. To bridge this, PhysicsX uses Low-Rank Adaptation (LoRA) to fine-tune these models on small datasets, generating physically meaningful variations even from a single bolt. To enable simulation, PhysicsX automatically repairs rough 3D geometries so production solvers run without crashing. Because standard solvers cannot directly guide AI generation, the team trains differentiable surrogate models as fast physics judges. These surrogates pair with an SDEdit diffusion loop that iteratively mutates candidate designs, keeping only the tweaks that pass the physics test. Validating the framework on the SimJEB titanium jet engine bracket benchmark, PhysicsX initialised its optimisation loop from the winning human design. Founded by two former Formula 1 engineers, PhysicsX focuses on applying artificial intelligence to improve product design processes in the manufacturing and defense industries.
