Requirements
  • Equivalent of two years of full-time medical-clerical experience, including patient chart management, inpatient admission procedures, data collection and entry, staffing arrangements, clinical order and result processing, and interdepartmental communication or coordination.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required at hire.
  • Integrative Agitation Management certification is required within 30 days of hire.
  • Accurate typing at 35 words per minute.
  • Proficiency in computer operation and Windows applications.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Ability to maintain an accurate filing system.
  • Ability to handle a large volume of detailed work in a timely manner.
  • Ability to establish priorities and remain calm while working amid conflicting demands.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and work tactfully and effectively with patients, visitors, physicians, coworkers, and other hospital staff.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member and contribute positively to team and organizational goals.
  • Ability to read, speak, write, understand, and follow English verbal and written instructions.
  • Required measles, mumps, varicella, and annual influenza immunizations as a condition of employment; COVID-19 vaccination or booster is strongly recommended.
Responsibilities
  • Process orders and results and perform other data entry and processing through unit-based computer and manual systems.
  • Maintain departmental manuals and logs, records, filing systems, forms, selected departmental and ancillary charges or credits, and reconciliation procedures.
  • Collect and compile unit statistical and utilization review data.
  • Manage charts, including compiling and organizing records; copy charts for transfers and ensure records are completed, signed, and ordered before sending them to Medical Records.
  • Manage staffing procedures, including call-off lists, float lists, time-off requests, and time and pay records, and collaborate with the staffing office on work schedules.
  • Process inpatient admissions, including computer entry, obtaining authorized signatures, patient scheduling, bed assignment, and census and accommodation verification.
  • Provide timely verbal and written communications within the team.
  • Troubleshoot, monitor, and perform simple maintenance on printers, fax machines, and duplicating machines.
  • Assist visitors, hospital staff, and other individuals by answering questions and providing information; screen and handle telephone calls.

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
