- Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
- Experience working with children of the same age as those to be supervised is required.
- Completion of minimum STARS-required training is required at hire or as soon as possible, no later than 60 days after employment.
- An associate or higher degree in any field plus 30 credits in Early Childhood Education is required, or a current Washington State Teaching Certificate endorsed in Early Childhood Education (PreK–Grade 3) or Early Childhood Special Education.
- Knowledge of culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate practices is required.
- A cleared Portable Background Check in the statewide MERIT registry is required at hire or during onboarding.
- Pre-employment tuberculosis testing and measles, mumps, and rubella vaccination are required.
- Employees must adhere to abuse prevention policies, maintain appropriate boundaries, complete required training, report suspicious or inappropriate behavior, and comply with mandated reporting requirements.
- Employees are responsible for ensuring staff are properly screened, trained, supervised, and held accountable to the organization’s abuse risk management standards.
- Plan and implement culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate curriculum activities in accordance with YMCA Youth Development goals.
- Take responsibility for the quality and completion of all classroom plans, including lesson, behavior, and event plans.
- Direct the program to meet the interests, behavioral accommodations, and individual learning styles of all enrolled children.
- Supervise a group of children to ensure their health and safety and provide a positive experience.
- Participate in coaching and feedback processes with Early Achievers and YMCA program quality groups.
- Provide guidance to staff and volunteers overseeing activities and groups of children.
- Communicate professionally with parents and guardians and maintain daily reports and confidential and evaluative information, including newsletters, individual parent communications, and parent–teacher conferences.
- Follow YMCA policies and procedures related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergency procedures.
- Fill in for the Program Supervisor during short-term absences when needed.
- Maintain a developmentally appropriate classroom, including the appearance, décor, and cleanliness of the site.
- Attend required staff meetings and training sessions.
- Knowledge of and previous experience with diverse populations, including differences in language, culture, race, physical ability, and sexual orientation.
- Ability to speak a language in addition to English.
