Requirements
  • A High School diploma/GED or 10 years of work experience is required.
  • Six months of experience as a cardiovascular operating room surgical technologist or two years of surgical technologist experience is required.
  • Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider certification from the American Heart Association is required.
  • One of the following certifications is required: Certified Surgical Technologist from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting, Tech in Surgery–Certified from the National Center for Competency Testing, or National Registered Surgical Technician from the American Allied Health Association.
  • The role requires constant vision, hearing, standing, walking, and handling of objects weighing 0–25 pounds; frequent handling of objects weighing 25–50 pounds, moving patients, bending, stooping, reaching, gripping, speech, and close-range vision; occasional handling of objects over 50 pounds, sitting, squatting, twisting, repetitive movements, and keyboard use/data entry; and rare kneeling.
Responsibilities
  • Anticipate and plan individualized patient care in the cardiovascular operating room based on advanced knowledge of the surgical case and unexpected patient and surgeon needs.
  • Assist cardiovascular operating-room surgical cases by running the table and assisting the surgeon at an expert level while applying surgical asepsis, infection control, universal precautions, and life-safety principles.
  • Maintain an orderly and organized work environment, care for specialty equipment, and assist the team in meeting quality and efficiency outcomes.
  • Operate and demonstrate expertise in cardiovascular operating-room instrumentation and equipment.
  • Maintain specialty instrument sets, understand appropriate sterilization methods, and mentor non-specialty staff on specialty equipment and instrumentation.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Perform other assigned duties.
