Requirements
  • The position is entry-level, although previous professional experience is helpful.
  • The candidate must be able to travel extensively, including overnight work away from the office, with travel up to 50 percent or more.
  • The candidate must be able to work independently in varied field and client settings.
  • The candidate must hold a current valid driver's license and have a personal vehicle suitable for forestry work.
  • The candidate must be able to work in high-pressure situations, meet tight deadlines, and adapt to changing conditions and priorities.
Responsibilities
  • Collect inventory data with the speed and precision required by each project.
  • Record detailed tree data and field observations using a tablet and internal software.
  • Determine tree diameters, heights, species, and product sections within plots.
  • Use sub-meter GPS for plot location collection, monumentation, and boundary access.
  • Coordinate with property managers to understand concerns, hazards, and access details.
  • Collaborate with other inventory foresters to maximize efficiency and operate safely.
  • Travel periodically on projects, including in-state and out-of-state work.
  • Support forest inventories throughout the country, local inventory efforts, and natural resource management projects.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry or a related field.
  • Interest in emerging markets, ecosystem and environmental services, and forest carbon.
  • A desire to develop a career as a natural resource professional in a fast-paced and diverse consulting business.
  • Superior written and oral communication skills.
  • Competence with Microsoft Office software.
  • Experience with GPS data collection and processing.
  • Experience with ESRI geographic information system software and GIS mapping and data collection principles.
  • ATV and snowmobile certifications.
