GIS Technician
About the job
- One to two years of experience.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Geography, Computer Science, a related field, and/or equivalent work experience.
- Familiarity with Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) and other Geographic Information System software programs.
- Knowledge of cartographic principles, standards, and terminology.
- Ability to create and/or maintain advanced data production functions for gas, electric, or telecommunication commodities using Geographic Information System-related software.
- Advanced skills in editing, manipulating, and analyzing data within Geographic Information Systems.
- Working knowledge of all project tools and specifications required to complete the work.
- Ability to work under minimal supervision.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Compile, integrate, edit, and maintain spatial data from a wide variety of sources for inclusion in the Geographic Information System and service operation maps or a customer’s environment.
- Develop scripts to automate tasks within the Geographic Information System software.
- Analyze and correlate data from various sources to link to features.
- Assist with investigating and resolving reported map problems.
- Perform data quality control and assurance.
- Occasionally participate in project start-ups and client interactions as needed.
- Produce project-specific documentation as needed.
- Meet the productivity standards for each project.
- Meet the quality standards for each project.
- Travel on a limited basis as needed.
- Perform other assigned duties.
