Requirements
  • Graduation from a Health Care Aide program or a provincial equivalent certificate program with a minimum of 500 hours of theory and practicum is required.
  • Experience working with seniors in a community health services setting is required.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills are required.
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills are required.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer focus skills are required.
  • Demonstrated sound skills and knowledge in providing personal care duties are required.
  • The ability to perform tasks necessary for the position, including lifting and transferring clients, is required.
  • A complete and current Vulnerable Sector Check, including a Criminal Background Check, within six months must be provided, or the candidate must be willing to obtain one.
Responsibilities
  • Work to the full scope of practice and provide resident-focused care.
  • Observe residents for changes in status during tub bathing, washing, cleaning, dressing, and changing, and report changes in condition to the Staff Nurse as soon as possible.
  • Participate in developing the Nursing Care Plan by sharing observations, information, and knowledge about residents' needs and strengths.
  • Share information with nursing and health care team members so the care plan addresses each resident's individual needs holistically.
  • Assist and accompany residents while moving around the community and participate in functions.
  • Report unsafe activities that may harm or injure a resident.
Desired Qualifications
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support and First Aid certification is recommended.
