Requirements
  • A minimum of a high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Credentialing as a Certified Peer Specialist through the Pennsylvania Certification Board is required.
  • Within the last three years, at least 12 months of successful full- or part-time paid or volunteer work experience is required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the local mental health system is required.
  • Basic computer skills are required, including desktop computing, email, timesheet management, electronic health records, and internet research, as well as the ability to learn relevant software applications.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • The employee must be able to work under pressure, meet deadlines and billable unit requirements, and provide customer service.
  • The employee must be able to travel within the community by walking, driving agency vehicles, and/or using public transportation, depending on program needs.
  • New employees must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 before beginning employment, subject to reasonable accommodations for qualifying medical or religious exemptions.
Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with participants to create self-directed goals that support their recovery.
  • Support participants with educational, employment, and social goals; benefit and medical resources; mental health and substance use services; budgeting skills; and housing options, in accordance with their support plans.
  • Attend socialization activities with participants, such as amusement parks, festivals, recovery learning centers, and 12-step meetings.
  • Create Wellness Recovery Action Plans (WRAP Plans) with participants and encourage development of mental health advance directives.
  • Facilitate peer support groups based on participants' interests as needed.
  • Document participant progress collaboratively in the electronic health records system.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to fulfill the organization's mission.
Desired Qualifications
  • An associate degree in a Human Services-related field is preferred.
