Requirements

A current registered nurse license specific to the state(s) assigned to work.
Meet one of the CMS psychiatric nursing qualification pathways: an RN with a master's degree in mental health nursing or a psychiatric specialty and nursing experience in an acute treatment unit or another psychiatric setting; an RN with a bachelor's degree in nursing and one year of recent nursing experience in an acute treatment unit or another psychiatric setting; or an RN with a diploma or associate's degree in nursing and two years of recent nursing experience in an acute treatment unit or another psychiatric setting.
Psychiatric experience must have been within the last three to five years; otherwise, documentation must support psychiatric retraining, classes, or continuing education units to update psychiatric knowledge.
Current CPR certification.
A valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and liability insurance.

Responsibilities

Perform initial nursing evaluations, including assessing behavioral health and psychiatric nursing needs.
Observe and evaluate patients' physical and mental status for complications and medication side effects.
Monitor patient behavior for indicators requiring a change in treatment modality, including crisis and suicidal ideation, as well as other medical signs and symptoms.
Instruct patients and caregivers in the cognitive and technical aspects of care, medication regimens, disease processes, safety interventions, activities of daily living care, coping skills, symptom management, and other interventions.
Administer intramuscular medications, perform laboratory draws, and collect specimens.
Coordinate care for assigned patients while acting as case manager.
Complete documentation accurately and on time.
Supervise licensed practical nurses and home health aides.
Regularly communicate patient progress to the clinical manager, psychiatrist, and care team.

Completes documentation timely and accurately.
Supervises LPNs and HHAs.
Regularly communicate patient progress to the clinical manager, psychiatrist and care team.

Qualifications

- An RN with a diploma or associate's degree in nursing.Must have two years of recent nursing experience in an acute treatment unit or other psychiatric setting.
