About the job

Requirements
  • 10+ years of software development experience.
  • Experience in full-stack development.
  • Experience with large language models and prompt engineering.
  • Production cloud experience, preferably AWS, including container orchestration, streaming and storage services, parameter and secret management, and infrastructure as code.
  • Hands-on experience with enterprise messaging and streaming platforms.
  • Extensive experience designing and implementing large-scale platforms with high resiliency, availability, and reliability.
  • Experience with continuous integration and continuous delivery tooling such as Harness, Jenkins, GitLab, or equivalent, and container platforms such as Docker, Kubernetes, ECS, or OpenShift.
  • Strong data skills, including relational databases and SQL/PLSQL, NoSQL stores, XML/XSD/XSLT, JSON schema design, and data-quality and reconciliation engineering.
  • Experience with observability and log analytics tooling such as Dynatrace, Splunk, ELK, or equivalent.
  • Strong experience building applications with high throughput and performance.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and lead technical work across distributed onsite/offshore teams.
  • Ability to interpret technical and business objectives and challenges and articulate solutions.
  • Agile practices, porting/software configuration, business analysis, analytical thinking, and business product knowledge.
  • Hands-on experience in some or all of the following preferred technologies and practices: JavaScript, TypeScript, ReactJS, NodeJS, NextJS, API design and development, backend development on relational and graph databases, Java, Python, Go, React, Envoy, gRPC, Protocol Buffers, JSON, Couchbase, Cassandra, Redis, and cloud infrastructure and engineering.
Responsibilities
  • Design, build, and manage enterprise platforms and shared technology services for messaging, event distribution, and system-to-system integration used by engineering teams across the enterprise.
  • Design and build operator-facing platform surfaces, including self-service onboarding portals, topic and schema management consoles, and flow monitoring views, owning the full stack from user interface components through supporting APIs.
  • Architect high-throughput, low-latency event-driven systems using publish/subscribe, queue-based, and streaming patterns, and define the topic taxonomies, message contracts, and canonical schemas that govern them.
  • Lead platform modernization and migration work, moving producers and consumers from legacy middleware and monolithic application servers to containerized, cloud-native microservices using phased roadmaps, parallel-run validation, reconciliation, and zero-outage cutovers.
  • Engineer platform resiliency through multi-region active-active topologies, endpoint failover, dead-letter handling, duplicate detection, and failure isolation.
  • Own the end-to-end delivery pipeline, including continuous integration and continuous delivery, externalized configuration, release verification gates, and documented rollback runbooks.
  • Build production observability through throughput and latency dashboards, log analytics, alerting, and data-quality and reconciliation checks between source and target streams.
  • Identify opportunities to apply large language models and artificial intelligence/machine learning to engineering problems, including schema and mapping generation, anomaly and exception classification, and reconciliation summarization, with human-in-the-loop review, accuracy baselines, and deterministic fallbacks.
  • Contribute as a core member of an agile team by writing code and unit tests and working with API specifications and automation.
  • Raise the team’s engineering standards through design reviews, high-level and low-level design discipline, coding and review standards, test-coverage and security gates, and technical mentoring of junior engineers.
  • Partner with product, infrastructure, and business stakeholders to translate objectives into technical designs and clearly articulate trade-offs to engineering and senior leadership audiences.
Desired Qualifications
  • A BS or MS degree in computer science, computer engineering, or another technical discipline is preferred.
  • Experience in process management, case management, or work management is a plus.
  • Experience with machine learning, cognitive optical character recognition, or agentic artificial intelligence automations that drive cost savings.
  • AWS is the preferred production cloud platform.
  • Experience with microservices architectures and service mesh technologies is preferred.
  • Python for automation, data engineering, or machine learning is a plus.

About the company

American Express issues credit and pay-in-full charge cards to consumers and businesses, and unlike most card issuers it also runs the payment network its cards use. Its Travelers Cheque, launched in 1891, made carrying money abroad safer, and in 1959 it became the first major issuer of plastic cards. Cardholders earn points toward flights and hotels plus perks such as airport lounges, while companies use its corporate cards for employee travel and expenses. American Express earns a fee from merchants on each purchase, plus annual fees and interest on balances cardholders carry. Henry Wells and William Fargo, who later started Wells Fargo, co-founded it in 1850 as a freight delivery business; it is based in New York City.

United Airlines sees loyalty revenue surge 13% as Amex cardholders boost premium spending

United Airlines reported strong second-quarter results driven by loyalty programmes, with American Express playing an unexpected role despite not co-branding a card with the carrier. United's MileagePlus card is issued exclusively by Chase through 2029, but Amex channels premium spend through its Platinum cardholders, who can designate United for a $200 annual credit on bags and fees. Business Platinum holders receive a 35% rebate on economy fares booked through Amex Travel. The airline also benefits from Amex's transfer partnerships with programmes like Air Canada Aeroplan and Singapore KrisFlyer, which provide access to United seats. United's chief commercial officer reported new co-branded card accounts rose 22% year-over-year, hitting a second-quarter record, whilst card spend increased 14%. Loyalty revenue grew 11.3%, or above 13% when adjusted for accounting changes.
