407 ETR operates a 108-kilometre all-electronic toll highway in the Greater Toronto Area under a 99-year lease with the Ontario government. Tolls are charged automatically via transponders or by license-plate recognition with monthly statements, using dynamic pricing to manage traffic and keep lanes congestion-free. It is the world’s first all-electronic, open-access toll highway and is owned by a consortium led by CPP Investments, with Cintra and AtkinsRéalis as other investors. Its goal is to provide a fast, reliable travel option by maintaining and expanding the corridor through user-pay tolls and ongoing maintenance.
