Requirements
  • Ability to stand or walk for approximately 95% of the workday and frequently perform standing, reaching, lifting items weighing 40 pounds or less, bending, kneeling, stooping, squatting, climbing, pushing, twisting, and pulling.
  • Ability to occasionally climb and balance using a step stool.
  • Ability to perform repetitive finger, hand, and wrist movements, including lifting, keypad entry, chopping, filling, and sealing packaging.
  • Ability to use both hands to grasp, grip, move, or operate objects and equipment.
  • Ability to follow HACCP standards, school food regulations, health department sanitation standards, safety precautions, menu instructions, recipe instructions, portion-size requirements, and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to learn and operate a Point of Sale system and reconcile monies daily.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal English, including using electronic mail and computers, and to read and comprehend written, graphic, and oral instructions.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of student information.
  • Ability to complete required USDA mandatory professional standards training hours and participate in PGI classes.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with nutrition services staff, school staff, students, parents, and other stakeholders.
  • High school education or equivalent.
  • Ability to travel to multiple schools based on site needs and maintain a flexible work schedule.
Responsibilities
  • Assist with the daily preparation of the school lunch program.
  • Set up and clean serving areas for timely student service, including dishwashing and sanitation of workstations.
  • Use kitchen equipment properly and clean the equipment appropriately.
  • Serve meals daily while complying with school food regulations and health department sanitation standards.
  • Measure and record food cooking and serving temperatures as required by HACCP standards.
  • Follow menu and recipe instructions and prepare food according to required temperatures, appearance, and portion sizes.
  • Assist with unloading and properly storing delivered food items.
  • Operate the Point of Sale system and reconcile monies daily to ensure accuracy.
  • Communicate with nutrition services staff, school staff, students, and parents while supporting positive community relationships.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information.
  • Participate in required training, including PGI classes, and complete annual USDA mandatory professional standards training hours.
  • Pursue upcoming regulatory changes and provide sustainable solutions.
  • Assist with the preparation, service, and sale of meals, including washing, cleaning, peeling, cutting, and chopping fresh fruits, vegetables, and meat items.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
