Requirements
  • A high school diploma or General Educational Development credential is required.
  • Completion of an accredited medical assistant program is required.
Responsibilities
  • Communicate and interact courteously and efficiently with patients, team members, physicians, and other customers.
  • Describe orthopedic conditions based on knowledge of anatomical structures and their relationships.
  • Apply aseptic techniques for dressing changes and removal of sutures and staples.
  • Prepare and assist with wound care and dressing changes as directed by a physician.
  • Remove sutures and staples and apply and remove casts, splints, braces, and other orthopedic devices.
  • Assist with documentation of physician orders, including prescriptions, physical and occupational therapy, outside-facility studies, and return-to-work or physical-activity slips.
  • Maintain a complete inventory of required clinical items and clean and stock patient examination, treatment, and storage rooms.
  • Greet patients, escort them to examination rooms, and complete initiation-of-visit requirements.
  • Organize work and assist physicians efficiently with time, motion, and materials.
  • Perform administrative duties including in-basket and telephone communication, medical-record documentation, obtaining reports, and completing insurance, disability, pre-certification, and authorization forms.

  • Completion of a certified orthopedic technology or registered orthopedic technologist training program.
