Requirements
  • An accredited bachelor's-level degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or a related program is required.
  • Graduation from a medical technology program accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences is required.
  • Current certification or registration through the American Society of Clinical Pathology or American Medical Technologists is required.
  • At least one year of experience within the past five years is required.
  • The position does not provide sponsorship.
  • Candidates must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above their shoulders during the work shift.
  • Candidates must be able to lift up to 50 pounds from floor to waist, lift up to 20 pounds, carry up to 40 pounds a reasonable distance, and push or pull with 30 pounds of force.
Responsibilities
  • Perform a full range of automated and non-automated laboratory procedures in chemistry, urinalysis, hematology, serology, bacteriology, and immunohematology according to established protocols.
  • Evaluate specimen suitability for analysis, request a new specimen when necessary, and prepare specimens while maintaining their physiologic properties.
  • Select, perform, evaluate, and monitor test procedures using manual and instrumental techniques according to established protocols.
  • Recognize indicators of malfunction and locate and implement corrective actions.
  • Conduct quality-control procedures on equipment, reagents, and products and maintain records for quality-control reports.
  • Calibrate, standardize, adjust, and maintain trained instruments; verify correct operation through established procedures and quality-control checks; identify common problems and perform simple repairs.
  • Evaluate data validity in relation to the test system and accepted assay procedures, and correlate quantitative data with patient history and medications to verify results.
  • Perform additional tests to clarify or confirm abnormal patient results, recognize results requiring immediate physician attention, and report them directly.
  • Generate laboratory results from the work area in the laboratory computer system.
  • Edit and verify results recorded in the computer system.
