Responsibilities

  • Begin the shift before production, obtain the production plan and targets from the supervisor, and set up portioning tables, meal bagging tables, and shipping lines.
  • Collaborate with the supervisor to obtain daily production plans and targets, follow schedules to complete orders within allotted timeframes, communicate targets and performance against targets to production associates, and ensure associates follow company policies and procedures while escalating concerns to the Production Supervisor.
  • Plan for potential product shortages and communicate exact product and quantity needs to warehouse runners to avoid downtime; check ingredients for quality, accuracy, and shelf life before and during production.
  • Maintain working knowledge of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for portioning, meal bagging/kitting, and shipping; set up tables and lines according to SOPs and the production plan, considering targets and staffing needs; recommend SOP improvements to the supervisor; ensure labels, packaging, and products are available at the start of shifts and new activities; and communicate expected hourly production rates.
  • Prevent overproduction and unnecessary food or packaging waste, and escalate production-quality concerns to Food Safety and Quality Assurance (FSQA) and a supervisor.

  • Retrieve labels when needed, conduct hourly checks to verify packaging and labels, communicate shortages of labeled packaging to the supervisor, and conduct hourly checks of portions and meal bags to reduce errors.

  • Assist the Production Supervisor with shipping lines and maintain working knowledge of similar, hybrid, unique, and pick-and-pack shipping lines.
  • Understand and use the Boxing Call Out Sheet to set up and verify the line, and follow SOPs for transitions between similar runs, including the specified sign-off and red-tray procedures.
  • Coordinate with the warehouse to ensure shipping lines have required products and avoid downtime from shortages; ensure box-packing, shipping, and pick-and-pack SOPs are followed and adjust shipping-line pace as needed.
  • Collect production counts hourly in Chicago or every two hours in California, deliver meal-bag and work-in-progress counts to the supervisor at the end of each workday, and follow Home Chef inventory-management procedures.
  • Ensure red, grey, and green crates have clear labels, remove old labels from red trays, tag completed portions and meal-bag towers according to applicable SOPs, move towers to the proper storage location, organize them by date, and follow first-in, first-out processes.
  • Enforce and execute Home Chef food-safety policies on the production floor; ensure FSQA conducts Good Manufacturing Practices checks at the start of the shift and after lunch, correct violations, and follow required glove-changing, handwashing, and hairnet practices.
  • Ensure associates use proper lifting techniques, attend safety trainings, escalate safety risks to the Safety Supervisor, and account for the team at the designated location during evacuations.
  • Ensure work areas are clean, tables are sanitized, floors are free of spills and debris, and plant cleanliness, 5S compliance, and Good Manufacturing Practices are maintained; ensure coolers are cleaned and ready for the next shift.
  • Ensure the team meets production targets, set the expected work pace, identify and escalate disruptive behavior, move associates as needed to improve output, resolve conflicts between associates, and escalate issues to a production supervisor or manager when needed.
  • Follow facility Good Manufacturing Practices and help enforce them throughout the facility; maintain safe working conditions and correct or escalate safety risks; support company food-safety and quality programs.
