- Inform teachers and other staff members about new materials acquired by the media center.
- Maintain a comprehensive and efficient system for all media center materials and instruct teachers and students in its use.
- Arrange interlibrary loans of materials useful to teachers.
- Prepare materials for reserve at teachers’ request and maintain the reserve shelf.
- Write weekly notices to homeroom teachers about overdue books and collect fines for those books.
- Work with teachers to plan assignments likely to lead to extended use of media center resources.
- Promote appropriate student conduct in media center facilities.
- Help students develop independent reference-work habits and skills in using reference materials for planned assignments.
- Help students locate reference and other instructional materials.
- Present and discuss materials with classes studying particular topics at teachers’ invitation.
- Read to small groups of students.
- Assist teachers in maintaining appropriate student discipline for classes using the media center.
- Participate in curriculum meetings.
- Counsel students and provide reading guidance to those with special reading problems or unusual intellectual interests.
- Arrange frequently changing book-related displays and exhibits likely to interest media center patrons.
- Prepare and administer the media center budget.
- Make simple repairs to damaged books and process more severely damaged books for repair at the bindery.
