Requirements
  • A minimum Associate Teacher Permit or higher credential.
  • Three Early Childhood Education units in Infant Toddler Development.
  • Bi-literacy in Spanish is required; Mandarin or Vietnamese is preferred.
  • Required CPR and First Aid Training Certification.
  • Sixteen hours of health and safety training, including one hour of nutrition training.
  • Must be a mandated abuse reporter.
  • Must pass a health screening and tuberculosis test.
  • Must pass background fingerprint clearance.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds may be needed during some job duties.
  • Ability to use hands for computer work and answering phone calls.
Responsibilities
  • Assist the Teacher, Master Teacher, or Center Director and assume responsibility for the general supervision, development, and education of children and for partnering with families.
  • Serve as a language model in Spanish, Vietnamese, or Mandarin during working hours, as assigned by program design.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans to execute current program goals.
  • Use classroom materials and routines to promote an environment conducive to age-appropriate development, interests, and the special needs of children.
  • Develop and maintain a safe and healthy classroom environment in accordance with Head Start, Title 5, and Title 22 regulations.
  • Implement rules and practices that support positive child redirection.
  • Conduct regular parent communication, including parent conferences and chatters.
  • Conduct the ASQ and ASQ/SE with children assigned to cohorts.
  • Work on the Individualized Education Plan for each child assigned to a cohort and update it with the family.
  • Maintain an open and friendly relationship with staff, parents, and program volunteers.
  • Implement inclusive practices to accommodate children with learning differences and special needs.
  • Ensure personalized special services are provided to children with special needs, including feeding, toileting assistance and diapering, and use of specialized equipment.
  • Attend required classroom, center, and organization meetings.
  • Assist other centers when requested.
  • Perform other assigned duties.

  • Supervision of teaching assistants and volunteers.
  • Knowledge of federal Head Start policies and procedures.
  • Mandarin or Vietnamese bi-literacy.
