Requirements
  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Have a valid driver's license because the role involves transporting persons served.
  • Be comfortable driving company vehicles to transport persons served as required.
  • Some positions or locations may require a personal vehicle and auto-liability insurance based on the role.
  • Remain calm and make sound decisions during challenging situations.
  • Communicate effectively and work well as part of a team.
  • Be comfortable learning new skills and following individualized support plans.
  • Have a sincere interest in supporting people with complex needs.
  • Successfully complete the required background clearance as part of the onboarding and employment process.
Responsibilities
  • Provide individualized support to adults with mental health, intellectual and developmental, and/or physical disabilities.
  • Support people as they develop skills, pursue personal goals, and participate in their communities.
  • Provide encouragement, mentoring, and guidance with daily activities and life skills.
  • Help individuals maintain their comfort, safety, dignity, and independence.
  • Support daily living activities when needed, including mobility, dressing, bathing, personal hygiene, meals, and other personal-care needs depending on the individual.
  • Recognize and respond appropriately to behavioral or mental health needs.
  • Attend community activities, appointments, social events, recreational activities, and other outings.
  • Complete required documentation regarding services, progress, incidents, and important events.
  • Complete Handle with Care training and other required training to safely and effectively support the people in your care.
Desired Qualifications
  • Prior experience in intellectual and developmental disabilities, mental health, behavioral health, psychiatric services, healthcare, corrections or security, or another human-services setting.

5 questions with Monica Baty, Dungarvin Indiana Area Director. Learn why her grandmothers are the heroes in her life April 27, 2026 | Edie Grossfield, Digital Content Specialist Monica with her daughters, Isabella (left) and Abigail. Monica Baty is an Indiana Area Director who recently joined Dungarvin after the organization acquired facilities and services from her previous employer Sevita Health. She was a Regional Director at Sevita, overseeing the operations of group homes, day programs and other services for the company's East-Central region. Living in Muncie, Indiana, Monica has been in the human services field for 25 years. What do you like about working in this field? I enjoy working with the individuals Dungarvin, Inc. support. I appreciate the opportunities to assist people in achieving their goals and the level of independence they desire. Daily challenges and new experiences keep the job interesting. How did the place where you grew up shape who you are today? My parents shaped the work ethic that I have today. My grandmothers taught me patience to be able to work with people who others might find challenging. The individuals I supported during high school when I worked at a camp for people with disabilities taught me to have an open mind and an open heart. Monica with her husband Eric, son Zachary and daughters Isabella (left) and Abigail. What do you like to do for fun? I enjoy traveling with my family, attending my kids' sports activities, swimming, gardening and cooking. Who are your heroes in life and why? My grandmothers are the heroes in my life. Both ladies lived through the difficulties of the depression. They came from close-knit families and were often viewed as the glue that held their family together. Both were devout followers of their church and instilled the importance of the church's beliefs in their children and grandchildren. They never met a stranger, and were willing to help their communities in any way they could. What attributes do you most value in a co-worker? I appreciate someone who is willing to jump in and roll up their sleeves to help. I enjoy working in a team atmosphere in which everyone is working toward the same mission and goals. Skill and compassion win Dungarvin's Stephen Kibii the ANCOR DSP of the Year Award for Indiana. "Patience and consistency can make a big difference in someone's well-being" April 22, 2026 | Edie Grossfield, Digital Content Specialist Stephen Kibii, ANCOR DSP of the Year for Indiana Direct Support Professional (DSP) Stephen Kibii has a gift for developing trusting relationships with the people he supports in a Dungarvin Indiana group home. By taking the time to understand each individual's unique preferences, strengths and dreams, he lives out Dungarvin's mission of "respecting and responding to the choices of people in need of supports." The ways in which Stephen demonstrates excellence and compassion in his work, prompted the American Network of Community Options and Resources (ANCOR) to name him DSP of the Year for the state of Indiana. He will receive this prestigious award, along with five other Dungarvin winners, this week during the ANCOR Connect '26 conference in Boston. ANCOR, a national association for community-based disability service providers, chose 57 DSPs out of a record-number 544 nominees from across the country for this year's awards. Dungarvin flew all six of its honorees, plus their guests, to Boston for a whirlwind experience of the city and the ANCOR awards ceremony. "Being named DSP of the Year feels meaningful, because it shows that the everyday effort I put in - often in small, quiet moments - truly matters," Stephen said. "It reminds me to stay committed to giving consistent, respectful support and to keep improving in how I serve others." In the video above, Meredith Freeman, Dungarvin Indiana Senior Director, congratulates Stephen on his DSP of the Year Award. Stephen works in a Dungarvin group home with men who have complex behavioral support needs, meaning they can sometimes express discomfort or frustration in an aggressive manner. About a year ago, a young man moved into the home after living with his parents. He became aggressive at times as he struggled to communicate his feelings about adjusting to a new environment. During the past year, Stephen helped the individual feel comfortable and safe in the home and learn how to express his opinions and feelings in more constructive ways. Stephen with Kolton, an individual he supports in Indiana. "He took the time to truly see this young man and where he was coming from when he moved in," said Stephen's supervisor and nominator, Greta Goins, a Dungarvin Area Director. "Whenever the individual struggled with expressing himself and would be on the verge of aggression, Stephen would remind him to slow down and breathe, giving him assurance that things would be OK." As a result, the young man has made tremendous progress and is now preparing to "graduate" from the group home setting. Stephen finds supporting people who have exceptional support needs rewarding because he gets to witness their growth and increasing independence. "I enjoy building trust, supporting their daily goals and seeing their progress, even in small steps." In addition to his support skills, Stephen is a natural leader to less-experienced DSPs. "Stephen is not new to the DSP line of work... he has a wealth of knowledge to share with newer staff members and he guides them to make informed decisions, which helps them prosper in their roles," Greta said. Stephen said he's learned a great deal during his DSP career, including that "patience and consistency can make a big difference in someone's progress and well-being. I've also realized that truly listening and meeting individuals where they're at builds trust and leads to better support." Congratulations, Stephen! The Dungarvin winners join a total of 57 standout honorees from provider agencies across the country. This year's awards garnered 544 total nominations of worthy candidates based on their skills in the following four disciplines: Person-centered supports, Relationships, Leadership and Innovation. "I began my career as a direct support professional, and so I have witnessed firsthand just how powerful a difference a Brenda Olson, ANCOR DSP of the Year for Minnesota qualified and committed DSP can make in the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities," stated Kress.
