(Photo by Ken Sauer/WHAM) Victor, N.Y. - The Rochester Knighthawks teamed up with Dick's House of Sport to host a free youth lacrosse clinic at the Victor location on Sunday. The event aimed to promote the sport and inspire the next generation of Rochester Knighthawks. The sold-out clinic lasted two hours, offering participants the chance to learn firsthand from Knighthawks players. "They're always running around watching all of our games, so to be out here just kind of giving instructions and just hang out with the kids and get to know them, just be around professional lacrosse players that they get to watch is really, really cool," said Ryland Rees, No. 17 Defense for the Rochester Nighthawks. "I remember being in their shoes and doing these exact types of things and this is what creates that passion for lacrosse." After the clinic, attendees enjoyed an autograph session with the players. Dick's Sporting Goods bets $16B on experiential retail with 120 new stores by 2028

Dick's Sporting Goods is making a major bet on experiential retail despite widespread store closures across the industry. The company plans to open 40 House of Sport locations, 60 Field House stores and 20 Golf Galaxy shops by 2028, with Morgan Stanley analysts estimating this could drive sales to $16.417 billion. House of Sport locations are Dick's most profitable format, generating $5.6 million in earnings before interest and taxes compared to $2.8 million for traditional stores. These massive spaces feature interactive elements like rock walls, batting cages and running tracks alongside retail offerings. The strategy carries risks, including $20 million needed to open each House of Sport and reliance on shopping malls, which declined 3.08% between 2017 and 2022. However, recent data shows mall traffic grew in 2025 and early 2026.

Dick's opens at Hudson Valley Plaza.

Dick's opens at Hudson Valley Plaza. Dick's Sporting Goods has opened in a new location in the Hudson Valley Plaza in Kingston. The retailer, which had been at the Hudson Valley Mall, has moved to its new location that covers 52,832 square feet. In May of 2024, the Town of Ulster's Planning Board approved a site plan amendment allowing Dick's to convert the space, which then was vacant and had been occupied by Gander Mountain, for its use. Gander Mountain specialized in hunting, fishing and other outdoor gear. The owner of Hudson Valley Plaza, MCB Real Estate, which is based in Baltimore, characterized Dick's as an exciting addition to the shopping center that covers 673,000-square-feet and features such national names as Walmart, Lowe's, Sam's Club, and PetSmart. "Much of MCB Real Estate's retail success is driven by a disciplined approach to pairing national brands with the needs of the surrounding community," said MCB Principal Drew Gorman. "We don't just fill space but create a total shopping experience. By selecting retailers that resonate with the local demographic and strategically complement our existing anchors, we maximize asset velocity and create a destination that truly serves the consumer and provides long-term property stability." MCB says that it now manages 22 million square feet of real estate worth $4 billion. Its properties include those in the retail, mixed-use, multifamily, industrial, office and health care fields. MCB expects that the addition of Dick's Sporting Goods will further strengthen traffic at the Hudson Valley Plaza and have a positive economic impact on the Kingston area and the population of 57,356 located within 15 minutes of the center.
