  • Map two to three recruiting workflows where AI can improve quality or throughput within the first 30 days.
  • Clarify team structure, responsibilities, and operating cadences; partner with business leaders on hiring planning and intake; standardize hiring practices and candidate experience across functions; and introduce process or tooling improvements during days 30 to 60.

About the company

Fieldguide builds AI software for accounting and advisory firms to manage audits, risk assessments, and other client engagements in one shared workspace. Its Field Agents divide engagement work across planning, evidence testing, review, and financial statement preparation, with practitioners directing the work and approving results. The platform connects document requests, workpapers, and reporting so firms and their clients work from the same engagement records instead of separate files and email threads. Firms buy subscriptions to the hosted software, with implementation services covered by their contracts. Fieldguide was founded in 2020 and is headquartered in San Francisco, California, United States.

  • Expansion has fresh capital: Fieldguide raised $75 million in its Goldman Sachs-led Series C in February 2026.
  • US engineers get geographic flexibility: Fieldguide's software engineer listing accepts remote applicants and includes equity and home-office reimbursements.

What critics are saying

  • A broader rival is adding agents: Workiva introduced customizable Agent Studio workflows in September 2026.
  • Agent engineers face unsettled problems: Fieldguide's Foundation Agents role describes reliability work without established playbooks.
  • AI suppliers add dependency: Fieldguide's contract permits third-party model providers to process customer inputs for its AI features.

What makes Fieldguide unique

  • Firm standards survive automation: Fieldguide supports licensed PPC, Mercia, and CPA Canada methodologies alongside proprietary approaches.

The AI Ledger Weekly: Paystand publishes the numbers its agents must hit.

The AI Ledger Weekly: Paystand publishes the numbers its agents must hit. Paystand publishes the targets its AI agents are measured against, FinQuery opens a UK arm, and an open benchmark exposes the reconciliation evidence gap. Tools in this edition This is The AI Ledger Weekly: what actually changed in AI accounting software this week, checked against primary sources before it reaches you. Reading time: 5 minutes. This week at a glance. * Paystand made its agentic finance suite generally available on 8 September and published the figures each agent is measured against, including a 62% cut in days sales outstanding. * FinQuery bought Innervision from IRIS Software Group and opened FinQuery UK, adding FRS 102 and IFRS 16 lease accounting expertise. * Dext appointed a chief revenue officer and disclosed that AI Assist has automated 83% of edits since launch. * Fieldguide signed Centri Business Consulting, its fourth named firm partnership since July. * ADP made AWS its strategic cloud provider, putting ADP Assist agents on Amazon Bedrock AgentCore across more than 1.1 million clients. * 1LoD found false positives remain the top surveillance challenge for 52% of financial institutions, barely moved since 2024. The big story: Paystand publishes the numbers its agents must hit. Agentic finance has been sold on adjectives for two years. The interesting part of Paystand's launch on 8 September is not the agents, it is that the company published the specific figures each one will be judged against. Paystand made its Reporting Agent and Spend Agent generally available, with a Collections Agent in private beta and due later this quarter. The Spend Agent handles employee spend requests inside Slack and Microsoft Teams, applies purchasing policy, codes transactions and posts approved expenses to the ERP as native bills and expense reports rather than generic journal entries. Then come the numbers. Paystand states the Spend Agent's performance measures include reducing month-end close time by more than 78% and out-of-policy spending by more than 5%, and that the Collections Agent is measured against reducing days sales outstanding by more than 62%. Read the wording carefully: these are targets the agents are measured against, not results anyone has observed. Paystand integrates natively with NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Microsoft Dynamics and Acumatica. What it means for your practice. A published target is more useful than a vague claim, because you can hold a vendor to it. Ask for the baseline and the measurement window behind the 62% figure, and for a named reference customer who has run the Collections Agent through a full quarter. Do not treat the 78% close-time number as evidence of anything until the Collections Agent leaves beta and someone outside the company reports a result. Paystand carries a 4.3 rating in the directory. Also this week. FinQuery bought Innervision from IRIS Software Group and established a UK operation. The Atlanta company announced on 8 September that it had acquired the lease accounting compliance platform, gaining Innervision's team, customers and FRS 102 and IFRS 16 expertise. Existing customers keep uninterrupted service and gain access to the wider platform over time. Financial terms were not disclosed. For UK practices with lease-heavy clients, this is the week's most consequential ownership change. Dext disclosed adoption figures alongside a new chief revenue officer. Announcing Nicole Bello's appointment on 9 September, chief executive Sabby Gill said AI Assist has automated 83% of edits since launch and reached nearly 2,500 licences sold, and that Dext serves more than 12,000 firms and 700,000 businesses. Every figure is Dext's own and none is independently audited. Dext holds a 4.7 rating. Fieldguide added Centri, its fourth named firm partnership since July. Centri Business Consulting said on 8 September it will use the platform to standardise risk advisory engagements and give clients visibility into their control environment. Grant Thornton Advisors signed in July and Aprio in August. A run of named firms inside ten weeks is a stronger signal than any single announcement. Fieldguide holds a 4.6 rating. ADP named AWS its strategic cloud provider. The expanded partnership, announced on 8 September, builds ADP Assist agents on Amazon Bedrock and AgentCore to identify and correct payroll anomalies, answer questions and generate reports under human oversight. ADP's stated reach of more than 1.1 million clients across 140 countries is the company's own figure. Nothing changes for users this week, but the model layer under a large slice of payroll automation is now settled. The gap between AI ambition and operational reality has not closed. A 1LoD report published on 9 September, commissioned by surveillance vendor Shield, found false positives are still the top-rated challenge for 52% of financial institutions, ahead of budget constraints at 41% and data quality at 37%, with little movement since 2024. It covers banking surveillance, not practice software, and the sponsor sells a remedy. Weigh it accordingly. One to watch: an open benchmark for reconciliation evidence. Reconciliation vendors quote accuracy figures nobody outside the company can check. FinRCA-Bench, published on arXiv on 19 August 2026 by Pratik Ghawate, is an attempt at a fix: a deterministic synthetic benchmark of 2,250 accounts-payable-to-bank reconciliation cases across 14 operational tables, with root-cause labels hidden so evidence retrieval is scored separately from the answer. Its most uncomfortable result is that strict returned-evidence accuracy reached only 5.72%, meaning systems frequently produced the right conclusion without the records that justify it. That is the distance between a plausible reconciliation and an auditable one. The AI Ledger now lists more than 200 tools for accountants and bookkeepers, filterable by category, software compatibility and practice size at ailedger.uk/finder. The next edition lands Thursday evening.

Fieldguide secures FedRAMP Moderate authorization with Knox to bring agentic AI to CMMC compliance

Fieldguide has achieved FedRAMP Moderate Authorization for its federal environment through a partnership with Knox Systems. The certification enables audit and advisory firms to conduct Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) and NIST 800-171 engagements for US Department of War contractors handling Controlled Unclassified Information. The DoW estimates roughly 80,000 organisations will require CMMC Level 2 assessment. Fieldguide's federal environment uses the same platform as its commercial deployment, isolated for compliance purposes. Field Agents test assessment objectives, draft control narratives and review evidence using pre-built CMMC templates. Firms can undertake CMMC work whilst maintaining their existing accreditation status. The federal environment rolls out to firms from August 2026. Fieldguide is backed by Goldman Sachs Alternatives, Bessemer Venture Partners, 8VC and Thomson Reuters. Knox Systems operates managed federal cloud infrastructure serving Adobe, Celonis and other SaaS providers.

Fieldguide research finds ai-native audit and advisory firms significantly outperform casual AI adopters on profitability, capacity, and retention.

Fieldguide research finds ai-native audit and advisory firms significantly outperform casual AI adopters on profitability, capacity, and retention. August 13, 2026 Findings reinforce Fieldguide's value to the industry, under their recently refreshed brand and expanded suite of solutions SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 13, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) - New independent research from Fieldguide, the leading transformation partner for agentic audit and advisory, finds that firms deploying AI at depth are outperforming casual adopters across profitability, capacity, client retention, and staff retention, with the gap widening over time. The research, which will also be discussed at Fieldguide's upcoming conference Catalyst, surveyed 400 financial auditing and advisory leaders in May 2026, splitting them into active deployers (51%, where AI runs across most or all engagements) and casual users (49%, where AI use is ad hoc or limited to specific workflows). Key findings include: * Profitability: 74.5% of active deployers saw profitability increase 10% or more, vs. 52% of casual users * Capacity: 70.1% of active deployers saw significantly or moderately more engagements with the same headcount, vs. 46.9% of casual users. * Client retention: 73.5% say AI is a factor in winning or retaining clients, vs. 53.6% of casual users * Staff retention: 75.0% say AI has improved staff retention vs. 51.0% of casual adopters * Organizational redesign: 87.3% of active deployers have formally redesigned roles, team structures, or staffing ratios as a result of AI "Almost 88% of active deployers have already redesigned their firm roles and staffing around AI. That's the number that should make every managing partner stop and look at their own org chart," said Jin Chang, Co-Founder and CEO of Fieldguide. "It's also the clearest evidence we have that this is a structural shift in the profession." The data suggest that organizational redesign matters more for driving these outcomes than the AI tools a firm uses. Active deployers are also investing more heavily in building their people's skills, with the widest gap in client advisory and relationship skills: 47.1% are actively building the skill, compared to 28.1% of casual users. For firms not yet running AI at depth, the research suggests the window is narrowing. Clients already know AI is being used in their engagements, and what they are increasingly evaluating is whether a firm knows how to use it well. Among the deepest deployers, 44% say AI is a frequent differentiator in competitive wins, nearly double the rate reported by other firms. As AI adoption spreads across the profession, what wins client business today is likely to become the baseline expectation tomorrow. The advantage also compounds over time. As AI frees up practitioner time, active deployers are reinvesting it in higher-value advisory work rather than additional production, a shift that helps explain their stronger profitability. Better margins, in turn, fund further AI investment, freeing up more time in the next cycle. For the 204 active deployer firms in this study already operating in that cycle, the distance from firms earlier in adoption continues to widen. This survey's findings follow Fieldguide's brand refresh and the unveiling of two new platform capabilities, Fieldguide MCP and Field Financials, earlier this week. The refresh introduced the "Build the agentic firm" headline and "Expertise, amplified" tagline, describing firms that run engagements with AI agents embedded directly into the work rather than layered on top of it. About The Research Fieldguide commissioned TrendCandy to survey 400 financial auditing and advisory leaders in May 2026. All respondents hold Manager, Director, VP, or Executive titles at firms employing 100 or more people. The margin of error is +/-5% at the 95% confidence level. Active Deployers (n=204) are firms integrating AI across most engagements or with workflows fully rebuilt around AI; Casual Users (n=196) use AI ad hoc or in specific workflows only. All statistics are self-reported; the research describes correlation, not causation. About Fieldguide Fieldguide is a leading AI-native platform transforming how audit, advisory, and assurance work gets done. Purpose-built for regulated environments, Fieldguide brings professionals and agentic AI together to modernize engagement delivery from planning through close, enabling audit and advisory practitioners to deliver higher-quality work, strengthen client experiences, and unlock growth for the decade ahead. Fieldguide is trusted by leading firms and is the recipient of multiple Accounting Today Top New Products Awards, as well as a five-time winner of the CPA Practice Advisor Technology Innovation Award.
