Frec offers a direct indexing platform that lets self-directed investors own the individual stocks in an index (like the S&P 500) instead of buying an ETF, enabling stock-level tax-loss harvesting. Its core service charges an annual advisory fee starting at 0.09% with a $20,000 minimum and is delivered through a self‑service, mobile app–driven platform. The company operates via two SEC-registered entities: an investment adviser and a FINRA-member broker-dealer, and it also provides zero-commission trading for stocks and ETFs. Additional features include a high-yield Frec Treasury option for cash, a portfolio line of credit secured by stock holdings, and partnerships such as with AngelList to offer money market funds, all aimed at making advanced investing strategies more accessible.

What believers are saying

  • April 2026 product launches expanded S&P 500 Diversify and borrowing features.

What critics are saying

  • If customer growth stalls after $1 billion assets, Frec loses venture-style employer appeal.

What makes Frec unique

  • By April 2026, Frec added 22 classic indices and S&P 500 long-short strategies.
