Requirements
  • Three to five years of experience.
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Knowledge of state and federal government funding programs, including Medicare and Medicaid, and the requirements for timely notification of patient rights.
  • Proficiency in patient registration, scheduling, medical insurance pre-certifications, authorizations, and referrals.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience using computers and software applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, registration systems, and billing systems.
  • Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills.
Responsibilities
  • Perform the duties and use the skills of an HCA Patient Access Specialist.
  • Help oversee the operations of the team responsible for admissions and insurance verification under supervisory direction.
  • Ensure patients receive timely and respectful service from registration through insurance verification.
  • Help train and develop the HCA Patient Access Specialist team and keep new and existing staff current with policies and procedures.
  • Assist with problem solving and monitoring performance metrics.
  • Assist with audits and quality monitoring of completed accounts.
  • Secure and deliver correspondence required for government-program notification requirements, including CMS IMM, CMS MOON, NJ Observation, and CMS NSA forms.
  • Use electronic insurance verification methods, real-time eligibility systems, payer portals, insurance verification websites, and telephone verification as needed.
  • Ensure payers receive a Notice of Admission for scheduled and unscheduled admissions within 24 hours or the next business day when appropriate.
  • Submit notices of admission to payers through electronic portals or fax as appropriate and in a timely manner.
  • Communicate with physicians, New Jersey Medical Examiners, the Sharing Network, and funeral directors regarding deceased patients.
  • Initiate electronic death records through the New Jersey Electronic Death Registration System.
Desired Qualifications
  • At least three years of registration or billing experience in a medical facility with special considerations.
  • Experience with Epic.
  • Experience working with payer online portals, including NaviNet, Passport, Availity, and other third-party eligibility systems.
  • An Associate's degree.
  • NAHAM Certified Healthcare Access Associate certification.
  • HFMA Certified Revenue Cycle certification.
