About the job

Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Science or Master of Science degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field, completed by summer 2027.
  • Two years or less of relevant professional experience; internships and co-ops do not count toward this limit.
  • Programming ability in C or C++, demonstrated through coursework, research, or projects.
  • Experience writing software that interfaces with physical hardware, such as a microcontroller, sensor, motor, or robot.
  • Comfort working in Linux from the command line and using Git.
  • A working understanding of memory, pointers, and how a program runs on a processor.
Responsibilities
  • Learn to write software for space systems, including fault tolerance, radiation upsets, and updating a vehicle already in orbit.
  • Develop flight software in C and C++, from device drivers and firmware through components that connect subsystems.
  • Build images for embedded Linux on flight computers, debug on target, and maintain its services.
  • Develop microcontroller firmware for vehicle sensors and actuators used in movement and docking.
  • Develop tests, continuous integration, and hardware-in-the-loop setups to catch problems before they reach a vehicle.
  • Bring new boards into the software stack in collaboration with the avionics team.
Desired Qualifications
  • Leadership in an engineering student organization such as Formula SAE, a rocketry club, a CubeSat or satellite team, a robotics team, or Solar Car, especially owning software or electronics for a vehicle through competition or flight.
  • An internship or co-op in embedded, aerospace, robotics, or automotive software.
  • Microcontroller firmware experience with STM32, ESP32, or similar, on a real-time operating system or bare metal.
  • Experience with serial buses such as UART, SPI, and I2C, and bringing up a new device from its datasheet.
  • Python for testing and tooling, plus CMake and continuous integration.
  • Experience with flight software or robotics frameworks such as F Prime or ROS.

About the company

Rendezvous Robotics designs modular spacecraft that assemble in orbit from compact, independent tiles. Each tile can autonomously maneuver, align, and connect with other tiles to form larger structures or be reconfigured for different missions. Their system enables on-orbit construction and reconfiguration rather than a single fixed spacecraft. The company differentiates itself by focusing on autonomous, in-space docking and modularity to enable scalable, reconfigurable space infrastructure, rather than traditional monolithic spacecraft. The goal is to advance next-generation modular spacecraft, demonstrate flight in space, and grow their team and capabilities through partnerships and funding.

Rendezvous Robotics raises $20M seed for spacecraft that assemble themselves in orbit

Rendezvous Robotics, a Colorado startup building spacecraft that assemble themselves in orbit, has raised $20 million in an oversubscribed seed round. MaC Venture Capital and Toyota Ventures led the round, its first priced funding. The University of Michigan Endowment, Astera, and Industrious Ventures also took part, along with existing investors Aurelia Foundry, ATX Venture Partners, and Mana Ventures. The money will fund next-generation spacecraft, flight demonstrations, and hiring. Its spacecraft launch as compact modular tiles that manoeuvre and connect in orbit, which lets them grow or change shape after launch. In 2028, seven tiles are set to join, separate, and reassemble in a new configuration. The technology builds on TESSERAE, developed at MIT by Ariel Ekblaw. A final International Space Station test, with 32 tiles, is planned for December 2026.
