Requirements
  • Must have completed specialized training in substance use counseling or a related behavioral health area with a substance abuse specialty.
  • Must be registered and licensed through the Texas Health and Human Services Regulatory Services Division.
  • Must have completed the required clinical training and internship hours specified by the program.
  • Must have passed the necessary examinations to demonstrate competency in the field.
  • Must have a minimum of 3 years of experience in detoxification, residential, or partial hospitalization settings in a substance abuse specialty.
  • Must engage in ongoing education to maintain certification and stay updated on best practices in chemical dependency counseling.
  • Must be CPR certified.
Responsibilities
  • Provide guidance and emotional support to clients recovering from substance use disorders.
  • Provide individual counseling services during clients' recovery process.
  • Complete client intakes and assessments, formulate treatment plans, and handle administrative tasks.
  • Remain available to clients during crisis situations or be on call during non-working hours.
  • Facilitate group counseling sessions.
  • Intervene in heated group situations and encourage shy or withdrawn members to share their experiences.
