Job Description

The IAM Engineer – Customer Identity and Access Management (CIAM) is responsible for the hands-on design, development, automation and operational support of TAL’s customer identity services built on Okta. The role applies SecDevOps practices, including coding, automation, CI/CD and infrastructure as code, to deliver reliable and seamless identity capabilities across digital platforms, cloud environments and third-party services. Working closely with the IAM Engineering Lead, the role identifies control gaps, develops automated solutions and drives continuous improvement to ensure customer identity services remain secure, sustainable and aligned with business, customer experience and regulatory requirements.

In this role you will:

Build and support CIAM services: Design, configure and support TAL’s Customer Identity and Access Management capabilities, including Okta, across customer registration, authentication, account recovery and identity lifecycle journeys.
Engineer secure identity solutions: Develop and maintain secure application, API and partner integrations, applying authentication, authorisation, federation and Zero Trust principles.
Drive automation and engineering excellence: Build automation, CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code using tools such as Terraform to improve efficiency, consistency and reliability.
Strengthen identity security and controls: Assess and improve customer identity controls to protect customer information, reduce fraud and account takeover risk, and address control deficiencies and audit findings.
Optimise and continuously improve CIAM: Diagnose complex technical issues, enhance Okta security capabilities and work across Security, Risk, Digital and Technology teams to improve the security, reliability and customer experience of CIAM services.

Qualifications

3+ years’ experience in Identity and Access Management, Customer Identity and Access Management, or Cyber Security engineering, ideally within a customer-focused environment.
Hands-on experience with Okta or an equivalent CIAM platform, including authentication, customer identity lifecycle management and modern identity security capabilities.
Strong knowledge of identity and authentication standards, including OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, SAML, multi-factor authentication and Zero Trust principles.
Strong coding and automation capability, using languages such as Python, JavaScript/TypeScript or Java, with experience building APIs, integrations and identity automation.
Experience with modern SecDevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code such as Terraform, Git-based version control and automated testing.

MLC retirement income product reaches $1.2bn FUM. MLC Retirement Boost has attracted $1.2 billion in its first year, highlighting adviser demand for income beyond traditional pensions. Reading Time: 3 mins read Helping clients turn superannuation savings into retirement income has emerged as a focus for advisers using MLC Expand, with its Retirement Boost product reaching $1.2 billion in funds under management a year after launch. MLC director of retirement innovation Ashton Jones said the growth reflected a shift in retirement planning, as attention moved from building balances towards understanding how much income those savings could deliver. "For a long time, retirement has been framed around accumulation. The next challenge is helping Australians understand what they can receive in retirement, so they can live life with more confidence rather than hold back because they are worried about running out," Jones said. The product, developed with TAL and Challenger, allows clients to move between a superannuation savings phase and a pension phase designed to provide income for life. Its pension component can operate independently or alongside an account-based pension. MLC Expand said Retirement Boost had become the fastest growing innovative retirement income stream (IRIS) product on a wrap platform, with chief executive Liz McCarthy pointing to demand for options that advisers could incorporate into their existing client relationships. "Retirement is one of the biggest financial challenges facing Australians, and advisers are looking for practical ways to help clients feel more confident about the income they can receive in retirement," McCarthy said. "What has been pleasing is that advisers are not just seeing MLC Retirement Boost as another product. They are seeing it as a practical way to have a different conversation with clients about confidence, certainty and how they can make more of their super in retirement." Alongside lifetime income, the product's design potentially enables clients to access Age Pension means test concessions during its superannuation phase, which otherwise operates like a standard super account. According to MLC Expand, combining Retirement Boost with traditional retirement products such as an account-based pension can provide up to 60 per cent more income in retirement. The release cited Chant West research finding that strategies incorporating the product could deliver higher annual income through a combination of payments continuing for life and higher Age Pension payments. Jones said advisers' ability to explain and implement retirement income strategies depended on the support available alongside the product. "That is why it's not just the product, but the service model that matters. Advisers need more than a strong product. They need education, tools, technical support and a platform experience that makes it easier to bring these conversations to life with clients." That support includes MLC Expand's Centre of Excellence, established through the partnership with TAL and Challenger, which provides technical insights, case studies, calculators, client support tools and dedicated assistance. MLC Expand has continued to develop the service and recently introduced an Income Deferral feature, with further product changes planned over the next 12 months.

Published on: 31st August 2026 at 9:12 AM Cancer Council and insurance brand TAL have signed a new partnership focused on helping Australians, particularly younger people, understand the dangers of ultraviolet (UV) radiation, and take simple actions to reduce their risk of developing skin cancer. Skin cancer is Australia's most common cancer and one of the most preventable. But reaching people early is critical. Cancer Council research shows childhood and adolescence are key periods when UV exposure is more likely to contribute to skin cancer later in life, with a significant proportion of lifetime UV exposure occurring in childhood and adolescence (before age 20). ADVERTISING By combining Cancer Council's evidence-based prevention expertise with TAL's national reach, the partners will focus on encouraging Australians to make sun protection part of their everyday routine. Naomi Watson, director of marketing and fundraising at Cancer Council NSW, said the partnership would help extend skin cancer prevention messages to new audiences at a critical time in life. "Australia has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world, with around 48 people diagnosed with melanoma every day, but it is also one of our most preventable cancers. The earlier people understand UV risk and build sun safe behaviours into their daily routines, the greater the opportunity to reduce their future risk. Through this partnership with TAL, we can reach more Australians with and encourage practical action." Dr Priya Chagan, general manager health services at TAL, said the partnership reflects TAL's commitment to working with experts on preventative health and helping Australians take action before illness occurs. "At TAL, we see the impact cancer can have on people's lives, families and ability to work. This partnership is about helping Australians learn about risks, and take small, preventative actions that can make a meaningful difference over a lifetime." "Skin safety is one of the clearest examples of prevention in action. We know many Australians understand UV radiation can cause damage to skin, but that awareness does not always translate into action. By working with Cancer Council, we can help make skin safety easier to understand and easier to act on, building habits - especially for young people - that can protect their future health." The first phase will build on TAL's national skin safety awareness program and Cancer Council's trusted prevention resources to deliver a youth-focused sun safety campaign scheduled to launch across media and social channels in November. TAL's skin safety program research shows prevention messages must be practical and behaviour-led. While 89% of Australians are aware of the damage UV radiation can do, 43 per cent rarely or never check the UV index and 62 per cent do not know how to. TAL's research also found 70 per cent of Australians change their sun protection habits based on the weather, despite UV radiation being high even on cool or cloudy days. With this in mind, the campaign will focus on simple, repeatable behaviours that can reduce risk over time: checking the UV index daily, and using a combination of sun protection measures like using high-SPF sunscreen, wearing protective clothing, a broad-brimmed hat and sunglasses, and seeking shade where possible, when UV levels are 3 or above. It will also draw on research from the Daffodil Centre, a partnership between Cancer Council NSW and the University of Sydney, including the SunWise Study, a clinical trial evaluating wearable UV sensors and personalised SMS reminders to improve sun-safe behaviour, and the Roadmap for a National Targeted Melanoma Screening Program, developed with Melanoma Institute Australia to guide a future risk-based approach to melanoma screening in Australia. Over time, the partnership will build on this prevention focus through co-created resources, customer engagement initiatives and ongoing collaboration that helps Australians better understand and reduce their risk. The partnership forms part of TAL's Health for Life preventative health program that uses evidence-based resources to deliver targeted education, helping people take practical steps to live healthier lives. TAL has announced the appointment of Alexis Denby to the role of chief customer and health officer effective 1 October 2026. In her new role, Denby will join TAL's executive team and oversee customer experience, brand and community initiatives. The appointment comes as TAL seeks to expand its role beyond claims, payments, including its response to the growing community impact of mental health and the support provided to customers through prevention and recovery. August 6, 2026 The $38 billion super fund has teamed up with TAL to offer members a lifetime income product while still in the accumulation phase. Brighter Super has announced plans to deliver a new lifetime retirement income solution designed to enable eligible members to begin building future lifetime income benefits while they are still working. Brighter Super says the move makes it the first member-owned fund to announce the development of this style of product, which enables eligible members still in the accumulation phase to begin building future potential Age Pension benefits while still enabling choice as to how their super is invested. The fund says Australia's superannuation system has been highly successful in helping people accumulate retirement savings, but many Australians remain uncertain about how to convert those savings into a reliable income that lasts throughout retirement. Brighter Super says the solution is designed to help address that challenge by allowing eligible members to begin building future lifetime income benefits during their working years, with greater income certainty and longevity in their retirement years. By beginning to accrue these benefits during the accumulation phase, members may be able to increase their overall retirement income, potentially improve their Age Pension outcomes depending on their individual circumstances, and gain greater flexibility and choice in how they structure their income in retirement, Brighter Super says. The fund's modelling suggests members could receive additional income of between $70,000 and $95,000 on average over 25 years of retirement. Brighter Super chief executive Kate Farrar says the announcement reflected the fund's commitment to helping members achieve better retirement outcomes. "Australians have become very good at building super balances. The next challenge for our industry is helping people turn those balances into an income that provides confidence throughout retirement," Farrar says. "Bringing this approach to the member-owned sector is an important step. Rather than waiting until retirement to start thinking about lifetime income, we're helping members begin preparing and maximising future retirement income outcomes while they're still working." The initiative builds on Brighter Super's growing retirement offering, which it said is a priority. The new solution aims to further strengthen the fund's support for members as they move from accumulating super to using their super to provide an income in retirement. Brighter Super will develop the solution in partnership with TAL, who will provide the lifetime income guarantee underpinning the retirement solution. TAL chief executive of group life and retirement Jenny Oliver says the partnership reflects a shared commitment to improving retirement outcomes for Australians. "We're focused on helping more Australians have a confident retirement. TAL is proud to partner with Brighter Super on this lifetime income solution, because we're passionate about helping more people plan for retirement and enjoy access to savings that can last for life," Oliver says. The solution will be introduced progressively, with the accumulation feature expected to become available to eligible members in the first half of 2027 and the guaranteed lifetime income option in 2028.
