Requirements
  • Three years of dining experience in a senior care community, with proven leadership and organizational skills; a state-required food preparation license is required.
  • Previous staff management and/or coaching and mentoring experience with a dining services team.
  • Demonstrated experience promoting a high level of customer service and hospitality toward residents, associates, and visitors.
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to multitask, and attention to detail.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including comfort presenting to large groups.
  • Appreciation of seniors and understanding of the aging process.
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Ability to apply fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Food safety manager certification is required.
  • Applicable state licensure is required.
  • General knowledge of laws and restrictions regarding assisted living care, and understanding of the opportunities and limits of other levels of care within senior living.
  • Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle are required.
  • Proficiency with Internet Explorer, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word.
  • Ability to lift or move 50 pounds, remain stationary, move freely, operate equipment, reach equipment above or below normal standing height, and communicate with team members, residents, and residents' family members.
Responsibilities
  • Provide supervision and direction to the food service program in assigned communities.
  • Plan and prepare appealing, nutritious meals for residents and guests.
  • Train and support dining teams and leadership, serve as a subject-matter expert, and promote culture changes.
  • Schedule staff on an ongoing basis, posting schedules at least two weeks in advance.
  • Plan and implement a menu cycle that residents will receive well and that features seasonal menu items.
  • Keep food and supply costs within budget.
  • Maintain effective communication with vendors.
  • Maintain, order, and account for the food inventories needed to perform duties.
  • Instruct employees on operating, maintaining, and cleaning kitchen equipment.
  • Provide hands-on training to staff and maintain thorough knowledge of all food service positions.
  • Ensure proper cooling and heating procedures are followed, equipment operates properly, and food temperatures are maintained appropriately.
  • Handle food safely and appropriately.
  • Provide cook coverage when necessary staff coverage cannot be found, including on-call duties.
  • Maintain working knowledge of all dining services shifts, individual assignments, and residents' dining needs.
  • Recruit and hire new dining services staff.
  • Orient new dining services staff and provide assistance to staff who need additional support.
  • Maintain and promote healthy relationships between staff and families.
  • Assist the Executive Director with monthly staff in-service meetings as requested and serve on committees as appointed.
  • Assist with sales and marketing procedures to develop and enhance satisfaction levels, and participate in resident sales, tours, and community needs when required.
