Requirements
  • High school diploma, General Educational Development credential, or equivalent working knowledge.
  • Graduation from an accredited medical assisting program and completion of an approved medical assistant training program as defined by state regulations.
  • Medical Assistant Certification or Medical Assistant Registration.
  • Current Basic Life Support certification, with demonstrated cardiopulmonary resuscitation competency for adults, children, and infants through a nationally recognized credentialed healthcare provider course every other year.
  • At least one year of medical clerical experience, preferably in a hospital or physician office setting, or prior customer service experience.
  • Organizational, human relations, and communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology, computer literacy, and keyboarding skills.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare patients for examinations and treatment by taking and recording vital signs, symptoms, other necessary measurements, chief complaints, and pain scores, and report condition changes to clinicians.
  • Assist providers with examinations and minor in-office procedures, including measuring blood pressure, respiration, heart rate and pulse, temperature, ear irrigation, and electrocardiograms; act as a chaperone when needed.
  • Use universal blood and body fluid precautions and personal protective equipment as required.
  • Prioritize patient flow through the clinical process.
  • Coordinate and manage patient care, including pre-certifications, authorizations, prescriptions, scheduling, test-result communication, and medication administration in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Provide clerical support by completing medical records, laboratory records, authorizations, X-ray records, hospital records, and other documentation related to patient visits.
  • Provide complete and accurate billing information for patient encounters in a timely manner.
  • Clean and disinfect equipment, examination rooms, and storage areas, and disinfect equipment and instruments according to sterilization procedures, manufacturer recommendations, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration guidelines.
  • Perform basic equipment maintenance and coordinate repairs.
  • Order supplies and stock patient-care areas.
  • Monitor inventory, including medications, injectables, immunizations, expired medications or equipment, and recalls.
  • Complete required onboarding, orientation, and simulation training activities.
  • Perform duties according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, and applicable professional standards.
