Requirements
  • Experience or training in medical terminology, computers, and clerical receptionist responsibilities is preferred.

Responsibilities
  • Perform duties appropriate to the area of clinical practice.
  • Direct and coordinate activities at the nurse’s station.
  • Maintain a safe and therapeutic milieu by fostering awareness of the Behavioral Health Services population.
  • Communicate respectfully by honoring personal space and using a non-threatening, non-challenging, and non-judgmental approach.
  • Perform routine clerical tasks including order entry and data retrieval, such as electrocardiogram and laboratory orders, as appropriate to the clinical area.
  • Manage patient records and charts electronically and in hard copy.
  • Ensure that appropriate and required signatures are in place.
  • Prepare, assist with, and follow through on downtime procedures.
  • Greet and assist patients, visitors, physicians, and other hospital staff.
  • Answer telephones and communicate verbally, responding promptly to general information requests and conveying messages.
  • Maintain complete and accurate medical records and current patient and unit data within the information system and on appropriate forms.
  • Ensure Medicare patients have their Important Message for Medicare form signed before discharge.
  • Transport or escort patients for admissions, discharges, laboratory services, radiology, and the security office.
  • Respond promptly to patients’ call systems and refer requests appropriately.
  • Demonstrate awareness of and sensitivity to patients’ rights.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Maintain effective and timely communication with nurses, other staff, patients, and families.
  • Keep the nurse’s station clean and free of clutter.
  • Maintain cooperative working relationships and support staff in performing their duties.
  • Monitor unit inventory and supply usage, and communicate problems to the Nursing Manager and Materials Management Department.
  • Report maintenance repair requests and monitor their completion.
  • Maintain a safe environment for patients and staff.

St. John's Riverside Hospital St. John's Riverside Hospital, a leading community-based healthcare provider in Yonkers, New York, recently experienced a data breach that potentially exposed personally identifiable information (PII) and protected health information (PHI) of at least 2,238 individuals across the U.S. According to a disclosure filed with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services on Nov. 14, 2025, the breach originated from unauthorized access to a limited number of employee email accounts. The incident was discovered in September 2025, when the hospital detected suspicious activity involving the distribution of phishing emails and an attempt to reroute payment funds. The compromised email accounts contained a range of sensitive information. For some individuals, the exposed data included personally identifiable information (PII) such as name, date of birth, Social Security number, driver's license or state identification number and financial account number. For others, protected health information (PHI) was involved, including health insurance details, medical condition information, treatment provider name, medical record number, treatment cost information and diagnosis or treatment information. St. John's Riverside Hospital's response. Upon discovering the breach, St. John's Riverside Hospital immediately took steps to secure its systems. The hospital changed passwords, revoked session tokens, reset multifactor authentication and engaged data security and privacy professionals to investigate the incident. The unauthorized activity was contained and remediated, and the hospital conducted a thorough analysis to identify affected individuals.
