Full-timeIn-person

About the Job

Requirements

  • At least 6 years of product management experience, including meaningful time owning platform, infrastructure, or developer-facing products at production quality.
  • A demonstrated record of defining and shipping platform capabilities, including explaining architectural decisions, production requirements, and lessons learned.
  • Strong sequencing judgment and the ability to prioritize competing customer commitments and team velocity needs with incomplete information.
  • Technical fluency to discuss architectural tradeoffs with platform engineers across infrastructure, authentication, observability, deployment, and agent runtime; deep coding ability is not required.
  • Extreme ownership and follow-through, including driving outcomes across teams without formal authority and holding self and others to commitments.
  • Clear, precise communication adjusted for platform engineers, forward deployed product managers, and executives.
  • Ability to define reliable platform foundations, understand platform-layer versus application-layer completion criteria, identify repeated field-built work ready to become core, and make quality and sequencing decisions amid ambiguity.

Responsibilities

  • Define what must be true at the core platform layer across capability pillars before reliable work can be built on top of it.
  • Prioritize and sequence platform work according to customer commitments, forward deployed team velocity needs, and current blockers.
  • Identify recurring capabilities built by forward deployed teams and determine what should move into the core platform and when.
  • Maintain a quality bar for platform roadmap capabilities so they are necessary, complete, and trusted by customers.
  • Enable forward deployed delivery teams to focus on difficult customer problems by ensuring the platform is secure by default, deployable anywhere, observable in production, and equipped with agentic primitives, evaluation infrastructure, expert judgment capture, and data reasoning capabilities.
  • Work with platform engineering, forward deployed product managers, and business unit leads to surface signals, resolve sequencing tradeoffs, and ground the roadmap in actual blockers.

Desired Qualifications

  • Direct experience with AI/ML platform infrastructure, such as agent frameworks, evaluation pipelines, fine-tuning workflows, or observability for production AI systems.
  • Experience deploying into constrained environments such as government, regulated industries, air-gapped infrastructure, or classified infrastructure.
  • Previous experience as a platform or infrastructure product manager at a company where field-built patterns were an important signal source for the core product.

About the Company

Scale AI

Supplies AI training data and builds AI apps

Scale AI supplies the data that AI labs use to train and test their models, and it builds custom AI applications for companies and government agencies such as the Pentagon. It first made its name labeling camera and sensor data for self-driving car companies like Waymo, then worked with OpenAI on InstructGPT, the 2022 forerunner of ChatGPT. Freelancers, some of them doctors and lawyers, write, label, and grade examples through its Outlier platform, and labs pay Scale for this data and for tests of model quality. Clients pay Scale to build AI tools on their own data, and some of those tools run on classified military networks. Alexandr Wang and Lucy Guo founded Scale AI in 2016, and it is based in San Francisco.
