Requirements
  • The candidate must communicate effectively with all members of the healthcare team.

  • The candidate must have a high school diploma or GED.
  • The candidate must have successfully completed an accredited Nursing Assistant Program and hold a current Washington State CNA license.
  • The candidate must maintain current CPR/BCLS certification.
  • The candidate must complete pre-hire and annual tuberculosis test screenings.
  • The candidate must complete an annual employee health screening.
  • The candidate must receive an annual influenza vaccine, unless an approved medical or religious exemption applies; employees with an approved exemption must wear a mask during flu season.
  • The candidate must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 100 pounds and perform sitting, walking, and standing duties.
Responsibilities
  • Assist with direct patient care within the CNA scope of practice under the supervision and guidance of a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse.
  • Support the patient milieu and participate in the healthcare team effort to provide and maintain a clean, safe, and attractive environment for residents.
  • Provide direct resident care, nutritional support, observation, documentation, and general maintenance of residents’ environments.
  • Maintain clinical and mandatory education requirements and established professional standards.
  • Advocate for residents and their families and collaborate with other professional disciplines to support effective resident care delivery and desired outcomes.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of age-specific patient demographics and needs and use care-improvement techniques that facilitate positive resident-care outcomes.
  • Engage and communicate with residents on an ongoing basis to develop trusting, cordial relationships.
  • Observe residents and take vital signs according to the plan of care.
  • Immediately report health issues and changes in condition to the supervising nurse.
  • Provide personal hygiene assistance, including showers or baths, shaving, hair care, and nail care.
  • Remind or assist residents with toileting according to the care plan.
  • Empty catheter bags.
  • Monitor temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, pain level, and weight as assigned.
  • Serve meals, clear dining areas, and deliver meal trays to residents’ rooms as approved by a licensed nurse.
  • Make beds, change linens, and prepare laundry for the laundry aide.
  • Keep residents’ spaces tidy, including washing dishes in residents’ units and discarding food older than three days.
  • Assist residents with activities and meals.
  • Provide CNA care identified in the resident’s care plan and directed by the nurse on duty.
  • Report refusals of care and changes in condition to the licensed nurse, Wellness Coordinator, Director of Nursing Services, or medication technician when no licensed nurse is available.
  • Maintain a safe environment and use emergency equipment appropriately when necessary.
  • Apply infection-control principles and practices consistently.
  • Identify potential abuse situations, report them immediately to the appropriate clinical or nursing leadership, and call the state abuse hotline.
  • Complete care and other required documentation before reporting off assigned duty.
  • Refer matters beyond the CNA scope of practice, knowledge, or skills to the appropriate person.
  • Know and observe Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act regulations when disseminating resident information.
  • Participate in general monthly in-service training for up to 12 in-service hours per year.
  • Participate in self-evaluation.
  • Maintain established standards of care within the CNA scope of practice.
  • Recommend program, equipment, environmental, or personnel changes that streamline operations without negatively affecting quality of care.
  • Know and use community policies and procedures.
  • Participate in or attend organization-sponsored and external community events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Spanish speaking is preferred, but not required.
  • Long-term care or behavioral health experience is preferred, but not required.
