Responsibilities
  • Provide medical services related to diagnosis, treatment, and education for patients and families in collaboration with physicians and other health care team members.
  • Perform first-assist duties and surgical skills and participate in the call rotation, which may include evenings and weekends.
  • Identify short-term and long-range patient care issues, provide information relevant to physician deliberations, recommend options and courses of action, and implement physician directives.
  • Assess patient health by interviewing patients, performing physical examinations, and obtaining, updating, and studying medical histories.
  • Determine abnormal conditions by administering or ordering diagnostic tests, including X-rays, electrocardiograms, and laboratory studies, and interpreting test results.
  • Perform therapeutic procedures, including administering injections and immunizations, suturing, and managing wounds and infections.
  • Document patient care services in the patient and department electronic medical record in a timely manner.
  • Instruct and counsel patients about therapeutic regimens, normal growth and development, family planning, emotional problems of daily living, wellness, and health maintenance.
  • Develop and implement patient management plans to provide continuity of care.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, regulations, and infection-control policies and protocols.
  • Comply with federal, state, and local legal and professional requirements; study legislation, anticipate future legislation, enforce adherence, and advise management on needed actions.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge through educational workshops, professional publications, personal networks, and participation in professional societies.
  • Develop health care team staff by providing information, educational opportunities, and experiential growth opportunities.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
