About the Job

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a closely related engineering field from a recognized university accredited by MQA or the Engineering Accreditation Council.
  • At least 5 years of applicable mechanical or facilities engineering experience, focusing heavily on compressed air, vacuum, exhaust, cleanroom, and HVAC systems.
  • Direct experience in a semiconductor, wafer-fab, data-centre, pharmaceutical, or other high-purity or critical cleanroom environment, and the ability to support shift, weekend, night, or emergency work when required.
  • Solid grounding in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and rotating-equipment fundamentals.
  • Experienced in capital project delivery from concept build through commissioning and handover to operations, followed by long-term operations and maintenance ownership.
  • Hands-on experience owning annual maintenance budget planning, forecasting, and cost control against target.
  • Solid understanding of building management system platforms, SAP PM, AI tools, and AI-enabled ways of working to improve efficiency, productivity, and decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Hold end-to-end technical accountability as the designated system owner for compressed dry air, process vacuum, process exhaust, HVAC and air conditioning, and associated instrumentation, control loops, and building management system integration across build, construction, commissioning, and operation.
  • Incorporate AI-powered tools into everyday engineering tasks such as predictive maintenance, energy management, and data-driven optimization of mechanical utility systems in support of AI transformation and smart manufacturing.
  • Develop and review foundational plans, load calculations, and system sizing for compressed dry air, process vacuum, exhaust, and HVAC systems in accordance with global standards and applicable codes.
  • Define equipment specifications, redundancy approaches, and turndown strategies for compressors, dryers, vacuum pumps, and fans.
  • Review and challenge consultant build deliverables, including P&IDs, single-line diagrams, equipment schedules, and layouts, for maintainability and future expansion.
  • Review contractor submittals, method statements, and material approvals for alignment with global standards and applicable engineering standards.
  • Support technical bid evaluation and equipment selection.
  • Ensure the build incorporates energy efficiency, maintainability, and demand-based control.
  • Coordinate contractors and original equipment manufacturer vendors during installation to confirm compliance with drawings and specifications.
  • Observe factory acceptance tests and site acceptance tests for compressors, dryers, vacuum packages, and air-handling equipment.
  • Verify pipework fabrication, cleanliness, pressure testing, and passivation for compressed dry air and vacuum lines to prevent contamination.
  • Manage installation punch lists, non-conformance reports, and interface coordination between mechanical, electrical, and controls trades.
  • Confirm safety systems, isolation points, and lockout/tagout provisions are accurately installed and detailed.
  • Lead commissioning and system start-up; develop and complete commissioning protocols and qualification test plans.
  • Verify compressed dry air purity qualification to required ISO 8573 classes for particles, dew point, and oil, including accurate sampling and line-flushing methodology.
  • Validate vacuum system ultimate pressure, response, and capacity at point of use; confirm exhaust flow balancing and static-pressure set points.
  • Qualify HVAC performance for temperature, humidity, air-change rates, filtration, and pressurization to ISO 14644 cleanroom classifications.
  • Support tool-install hook-up and utility readiness aligned to fab ramp achievements; hand over qualified systems with complete turnover packages and initial maintenance plans.
  • Act as the responsible operations and maintenance lead for designated systems throughout their operational service life, ensuring safe and reliable 24/7 availability.
  • Develop, own, and continuously refine preventive, predictive, and condition-based maintenance strategies using reliability-centred maintenance and failure mode and effects analysis methodology.
  • Plan and schedule maintenance activities via SAP PM; manage work orders, preventive-maintenance compliance, backlog, and shutdown or turnaround planning.
  • Manage original equipment manufacturer service contracts, specialist vendors, and in-house technicians; define spare-parts strategy and critical-spares holding to protect uptime.
  • Own reliability performance metrics including mean time between failures, mean time to repair, and availability; lead breakdown response, root-cause analysis, and corrective and preventive actions to eliminate repeat failures.
  • Manage statutory inspections for dry-system pressure equipment, such as air receivers, including Department of Occupational Safety and Health Certificate of Fitness renewals.
  • Continuously supervise system performance via the building management system and optimize energy, capacity, and stability against build intent.
  • Identify, justify, and deliver optimization and reliability-improvement projects with quantified return on investment, energy savings, and carbon-reduction benefits.
  • Manage system upgrades, capacity expansions, tie-ins, and end-of-life equipment replacement with minimal production risk and full management of change.
  • Optimize compressed-air demand through leak-detection and repair programmes, pressure-band optimization, sequencing, variable-speed-drive tuning, and heat-of-compression recovery.
  • Own, plan, and forecast the yearly operating expenditure maintenance budget for assigned systems, including spares, consumables, service contracts, and labor.
  • Prepare the yearly budget submission with data-driven justification; track actual spending against budget and manage variances monthly.
  • Build and justify capital expenditure cases for equipment replacement, overhaul, and reliability upgrades using lifecycle-cost analysis.
  • Drive cost optimization without compromising safety or reliability, negotiate service contracts, optimize spares inventory, and make data-driven repair-versus-replace decisions.
  • Report budget performance, savings, and cost indicators to management; ensure spending aligns with procurement and financial-governance requirements.
  • Support ISO 50001 Energy Management System requirements, energy audits, and reporting obligations under the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act 2024.
  • Provide technical mentorship to engineers, technicians, and operators on assigned systems.
  • Represent Facilities in internal, corporate, customer, and third-party audits, including ISO surveillance and customer quality audits, as the system subject-matter expert.
  • Collaborate with process and tool-install, construction, and global facilities teams to align utility delivery with fab ramp schedules.

Desired Qualifications

  • A Registered Energy Manager Type 1 or Type 2 certification under the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act 2024 is helpful for energy-related responsibility.
  • A Project Management Professional certification or comparable certification is helpful for delivering capital projects and managing budgets.

About the Company

Micron Technology

Makes memory and storage chips for AI and PCs

Micron Technology designs and manufactures memory and storage chips, mainly DRAM and NAND flash, used in data centers, PCs, phones, cars and industrial equipment. It is one of only three companies that make HBM, the stacked high-bandwidth memory placed beside processors in AI servers, and it is the largest memory chipmaker based in the United States. Unlike chip designers that outsource production, Micron runs its own fabs and assembly sites in the United States and across Asia. It earns money by selling chips, memory modules and solid-state drives to cloud providers, device makers and distributors. Micron was founded in 1978 and is headquartered in Boise, Idaho.
