Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent GED is required.
  • A Pennsylvania Department of Health Nursing Assistant Certification is preferred.
  • One year of recent experience in a clinical setting providing direct patient care, or completion of or current enrollment in a health-related program that provides the ability to perform nursing care assistant skills such as taking vital signs, measuring intake and output, feeding, and bathing, is preferred.
  • Frequent walking, standing, bending, kneeling, reaching, and twisting are required.
  • Ability to lift and/or carry up to or over 50 pounds is required.
  • The role involves exposure to bloodborne pathogens, latex, and radiation.
  • Ability to attend to more than one aspect of a situation simultaneously is required.
  • Efficiency in processing verbal information, in written or spoken form, is required.
  • Some independent thought, planning, or origination of options and solutions is necessary.
  • Ability to apply reasoning and problem-solving principles to resolve practical problems and address concrete variables in situations with limited standardization is required.
Responsibilities
  • Provide and assist with patient care, including basic hygiene, comfort, support and safety measures, nutrition and elimination needs, simple treatments and procedures, vital signs, weights, glucose monitoring, and mobility, using proper tools and body mechanics appropriate to the ages of patients served.
  • Receive and communicate patient information accurately, and recognize when to call or report information to the nurse.
  • Orient patients and significant others to the unit and patient room upon admission and on an ongoing basis.
  • Answer call lights and complete purposeful rounding in a timely and appropriate manner to ensure patient and family needs are met.
  • Document assigned tasks according to unit policies and procedures.
  • Clean patient equipment according to policy, tag defective equipment, and notify the appropriate department for repair.
  • Perform efficiently in emergency situations, including Code 68 and Code Yellow.
  • Prepare and transport patients and perform courier duties for the department, including interunit transfers.
  • Restock and ensure adequate patient-care supplies, such as isolation supplies and linen, according to unit needs.
  • Monitor and record temperature logs according to unit requirements.
  • Maintain a neat and orderly nursing unit, hallway, and utility room.
