Xbox is "working closely" with GTA 6 makers Take-Two and Rockstar following leaks, tech chief says, "to support efforts to protect creative works" Published 3 hours ago It seems Xbox is cooperating with Take-Two's subpoena GTA 6 developer Rockstar and publisher Take-Two Interactive aren't having good weeks. With just weeks to go until the Netflix extended look really kicks off the marketing campaign in earnest, a massive GTA 6 leak surfaced online Tuesday afternoon and revealed the full Leonida map as well as what looked to be near-final gameplay. The leaker, who goes by Cyberleek online, soon after revealed yet another leak that suggested they had access to a playable build of the game, which is really a worst case scenario for Rockstar and Take-Two in the final months to launch. Cyberleek has threatened even more leaks if Take-Two doesn't reverse-course and print GTA 6 on physical discs instead of sticking to digital-only as is the plan right now. Rockstar in turn has issued DMCA takedowns but has yet to identify the leaker, and now as Cyberleek continually proves they'll make good on their threat, Take-Two has subpoenaed Microsoft and Discord in order "to obtain the identity" of the leaker and presumably sue them into oblivion. Now, the reason Illusioncode is here. The tweet. Xbox's chief technology officer Scott Van Vliet sent out a tweet Friday evening seemingly confirming the company's coordination with Rockstar and Take-Two on the GTA 6 leaks. "We are working closely with Take-Two and Rockstar Games to support efforts to protect creative works and intellectual property," reads the tweet. Is it about the subpoena Take-Two sent to Microsoft? Probably, but not for certain. Is it even about the GTA 6 leak at all? Definitely, but as Rockstar and Take-Two have declined to publicly comment on the leaks, it makes sense for Xbox to stop short of straight-up confirming their authenticity in a public forum. For now, it seems the takeaway, if there is one, is simply that Xbox seems to be cooperating with the subpoena from Take-Two, but again, that's not explicitly confirmed. I've reached out to Xbox for comment and will update this article if I hear back. Weekly digests, tales from the communities you love, and more
GTA 6 leakers may be exposed as Rockstar targets Microsoft & Discord. August 21, 2026 Grand Theft Auto VI leakers may be exposed after Rockstar Games filed requests with a federal court for subpoenas. The alleged GTA 6 gameplay leaks were distributed online. The gameplay, maps, and other video clips were shared in this leak. The developers are now taking action against this. As per Variety, Rockstar Games' parent company, Take-Two Interactive, has filed subpoenas seeking information from Microsoft and Discord regarding alleged gameplay leaks for its eagerly anticipated game. The filing took place in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York on Thursday, August 20, 2026. As per the document, "copyrighted material includes but is not limited to audiovisual content, artwork, images, dialogue, or other creative elements." Take-Two is seeking data under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act to "identify alleged infringers at issue." Why is Rockstar going after Microsoft and Discord specifically. According to Take-Two's subpoena, the infringing content was first posted to Microsoft's developer platform, GitHub. These were released by a hacker group called CyberLeek. The group has also claimed to obtain a "playable build" of the game. Since then, the videos have been cross-posted on multiple websites. The subpoena aimed at Discord alleges that the copyrighted content was posted on the Discord Server by various accounts. A representative of Discord stated that the platform often receives DMCA subpoenas, which they review and comply with valid ones as part of standard procedure for companies like theirs. However, Microsoft has not provided a statement regarding this. Additionally, besides the subpoenas, Rockstar Games has not provided any comment and has neither confirmed nor denied the authenticity of the alleged GTA 6 leaks. Grand Theft Auto VI's release has been stalled twice; however, the company is set to launch the game on November 19, 2026. This game will be available for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S and X consoles. Ahead of its release, Netflix will provide an extended look at the game on August 27. Take-Two Interactive has returned 19.3% over the past six months, but the company's fiscal 2027 guidance of $8 billion to $8.2 billion in net bookings remains unchanged since May. This range was set before Grand Theft Auto VI preorders opened on 25 June, with the game shipping on 19 November. Management reiterated the guidance in August whilst reporting Q1 fiscal 2027 net bookings of $1.39 billion, slightly above expectations. Operating expenses are guided up 7% against bookings growth of 20%, creating an operating leverage opportunity. The company maintains recurring revenue through titles like GTA Online and NBA 2K26, which has sold over 12 million units. Management expects to reach a net cash position by the end of fiscal 2027.

Take-Two Interactive experienced a sharp two-day stock selloff that coincided with the circulation of new Grand Theft Auto VI footage beginning Aug. 18. TTWO traded around $248.13 before the leak and fell into the low-$230s before recovering to $240.15, erasing roughly $2.8 billion in market capitalization with approximately $1.5 billion remaining unrecovered. The selloff stems from escalating concerns that the leaker, operating under the account CyberLeek, may possess access to a working build of Rockstar Games' biggest upcoming release. The timing is particularly sensitive as GTA 6 is scheduled for release on Nov. 19 and represents one of the industry's largest anticipated launches, with Take-Two listing the base game at $79.99 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Roughly $1.5 billion of the initial market-cap loss remains unrecovered based on the reported price moves. CyberLeek account published multiple clips showing previously unseen gameplay. The account behind the releases, CyberLeek, has published multiple clips apparently showing previously unseen gameplay. One particularly notable sequence shows protagonist Jason using gunfire to spell "LEEK" on a wall, suggesting the footage was deliberately created by someone controlling the game rather than taken from an old internal recording. Other leaked material reportedly includes flights over Vice City and additional in-game scenes. Forbes said the evidence increasingly points to access to an executable build, though Rockstar and Take-Two have not publicly explained the source or full scope of the breach. The campaign also carries a crypto element, with promotional material attached to some of the leaked content. The financial impact of previous Rockstar leaks provides some perspective - around 90 GTA 6 development videos appeared online after a major breach in 2022, yet the incident did not derail anticipation for the game. [UPDATE] Take-Two stock price takes a hit as GTA 6 leak situation keeps getting worse. News Editor 2 min. read Published on August 21, 2026 [UPDATE | August 21 UTC, 08:13 AM]: Take-Two's stock price has recovered slightly since Windows Report originally published this article. You can check the stock price movement (NASDAQ) here. Video Muted [ORIGINAL ARTICLE] Ever wondered what a major leak could do to the company behind the game? Take-Two's shares have fallen during the latest GTA 6 leak storm, but blaming the entire decline on Rockstar would be premature. Take-Two stock price falls as GTA 6 leaks continue to surface online. Take-Two shares traded around $248.13 on August 18, before the latest leak wave spread online. They later fell toward the $232-$237 range, depending on the trading point. That represents a sizeable short-term decline. One estimate puts the lost market value at roughly $2.8 billion, while another measures the single-day loss closer to $1 billion. However, the timing alone does not prove GTA 6 caused the entire move. Market conditions can move Take-Two shares independently, and investors may react to several factors simultaneously. The distinction matters because Take-Two recently reported unprecedented GTA 6 preorder demand. The company has also maintained its November 19 launch target. CyberLeek keeps the GTA 6 leak situation alive. The stock movement arrives as CyberLeek continues releasing alleged GTA 6 material. New footage reportedly suggests the group may have access to an actual playable build. Take-Two and Rockstar have been issuing copyright takedowns against leaked videos. Neither company has publicly confirmed CyberLeek's claims or explained the source of the footage. CyberLeek has also attached consumer-focused demands to its campaign. Those include opposing digital preorders and preserving offline access for single-player games. The group has simultaneously promoted cryptocurrency, which has triggered skepticism around its motives. GTA 6 remains Take-Two's biggest upcoming bet. Take-Two priced GTA 6 at $79.99 and still plans to launch it on November 19. For now, the stock reaction looks significant but not necessarily catastrophic. Whether the leak creates lasting investor concern may depend on what surfaces next. Readers help support Windows Report. Windows Report may get a commission if you buy through its links.
