Banner Northern Colorado Medical Center and Banner Fort Collins Medical Center recognized for work to improve breastfeeding.

Banner Northern Colorado Medical Center and Banner Fort Collins Medical Center recognized for work to improve breastfeeding. GREELEY, Colo. (Sept. 28, 2026): Earlier this month, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) recognized Banner North Colorado Medical Center and Banner Fort Collins Medical Center, among 34 other Colorado hospitals, for their commitment to promoting and supporting breastfeeding through the Colorado Hospital Lactation Collaborative. The awards recognize hospitals that have implemented evidence-based maternity care policies and practices that support breastfeeding and improve care for families across Colorado. At the Sept. 16 event, CDPHE honored Banner Northern Colorado Medical Center with the Colorado Hospital Breastfeeding Excellence Platinum Award and Banner Fort Collins Medical Center with the Colorado Hospital Breastfeeding Excellence Gold Award. The Colorado Hospital Breastfeeding Excellence Award honors hospitals on a biennial basis for their commitment to evidence-based maternity care and breastfeeding support through written hospital policies that follow at least several of the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative's Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding. Award levels range from Bronze to Diamond based on the number of Steps implemented. These evidence-based policies and practices are designed to increase breastfeeding success and improve maternal and infant health outcomes. "This recognition reflects the dedication of our nurses, lactation consultants and physicians at both Banner Northern Colorado Medical Center and Banner Fort Collins Medical Center. They give new parents the time, support and confidence they need in those first days with their baby," said Julia Reinink, Banner Health's chief nursing officer in Northern Colorado. "We're proud to be part of the Colorado Hospital Lactation Collaborative and to help families across Northern Colorado get a strong, healthy start close to home." Additionally, CDPHE recognized all eight Baby-Friendly designated facilities in Colorado for receiving and maintaining the Baby-Friendly designation. The Colorado Hospital Lactation Collaborative is open to all hospitals and birthing facilities and provides free training, resources, and technical assistance to help facilities implement evidence-based maternity care policies and practices that strengthen breastfeeding support and improve care for families. The Collaborative also supports facilities interested in pursuing and maintaining Baby-Friendly designation and implementing the evidence-based practices outlined in the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative's Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding. "Evidence-based hospital practices can make a meaningful difference not only in whether families start breastfeeding, but in how long they continue. The support families receive during their hospital stay can have an impact long after they go home. Our Colorado data show that parents who reported receiving at least five of the Ten Steps during their hospital stay breastfed for approximately three months longer than those who did not," said Stacy Miller, Breastfeeding Specialist at CDPHE and facilitator of the Colorado Hospital Lactation Collaborative. Banner Health launches Walk with a Doc chapter in Fort Collins.

Banner Health launches Walk with a Doc chapter in Fort Collins. Free monthly physician-led walks feature relevant topics, next up: Breast Cancer Awareness FORT COLLINS, Colo. (Sept. 24, 2026) - Banner Health is bringing Walk with a Doc, the national program that pairs a short health talk with a community walk, to Fort Collins. The new chapter will host free walks on the first Saturday of every month at 9 a.m. at the Fort Collins Senior Center, with the next walk taking place on Saturday, Oct. 3. Each walk opens with a 10 to 15 minutes talk on a current health topic led by a Banner Health physician or provider. Participants then spend the rest of the hour walking at their own pace and distance, asking questions along the way and getting to know their neighbors. Walks are free and open to everyone, whatever their age or fitness level. The next walk falls during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Audrey Klawiter, DO, a Banner Health family medicine physician, will share information about breast health and the importance of preventive care before the group heads out. Dr. Klawiter has practiced family medicine in Northern Colorado since completing her residency at Poudre Valley Hospital in 2019. She cares for patients of all ages and believes a trusting relationship is the foundation of good care. "Walking is one of the simplest things any of us can do for our health, and it's a lot easier to keep doing it when you're doing it together," said Lynn Bellmore, MD and Banner Health family medicine doctor who spearheaded the local initiative. "We wanted to give our community a regular, low-pressure way to get moving, ask questions and connect with health care providers outside of a clinic." Regular walking is linked to a lower risk of heart disease, cancer and depression, along with better energy, mood and sleep. Walk with a Doc shares more of the benefits at walkwithadoc.org/100reasons. Walkers should meet in the west side parking lot of the Fort Collins Senior Center, 1200 Raintree Drive, Fort Collins. No registration is required. About Banner Health Banner Health's mission is to make health care easier, so life can be better. Banner Health to open new Verrado facility on Nov. 16.

Banner Health to open new Verrado facility on Nov. 16. For Verrado and Victory residents, access to more healthcare closer to home is about to take a significant step forward. On Monday, Nov. 16, Banner Health plans to expand its longtime neighborhood health center at 20751 W. Market Street into Banner Health Center plus. The expanded campus will combine primary and specialty care, advanced imaging, laboratory services and a new 24-hour emergency department at one Verrado location. The most consequential addition will be the emergency department, giving residents another nearby option when a serious illness or injury cannot wait. Banner says the new facility will include: * 24/7 emergency care for serious illnesses and injuries * Expanded primary care for routine, preventive and ongoing health needs * Endocrinology for diabetes, thyroid disorders and other hormone-related conditions * Advanced imaging and laboratory services * A helipad supporting emergency operations Banner recruiting information describes the new freestanding emergency department as a roughly 14,500-square-foot facility with 14 fully equipped exam rooms, a dedicated trauma and treatment room, and diagnostic capabilities that include X-ray, CT and ultrasound. What the new facility means for residents. Banner has provided primary care, pediatrics, laboratory work and X-rays at its Verrado location for years. The transition to a Health Center plus substantially broadens what residents can access at the campus. For families, older adults and residents managing chronic conditions, the combination of primary care, endocrinology, imaging and laboratory services could reduce the need for separate appointments at multiple locations. Banner says patients will also remain connected to its larger network of physicians, specialists, outpatient facilities and hospitals throughout the Valley. More specialties are planned for 2027, including gastroenterology, nonsurgical orthopedics, sports medicine and behavioral health. The November opening should not, however, be confused with the full-service hospital Banner announced for the property in 2022. That earlier proposal called for a four-story hospital with approximately 120 beds, inpatient surgery, labor and delivery, intensive care and room for future expansion. Banner's current announcement does not provide a timetable for that larger hospital. The facility opening Nov. 16 is a Health Center plus anchored by a freestanding emergency department, not an inpatient hospital. Banner says the emergency department will work closely with Banner Estrella Medical Center when patients require hospital-level services. Two healthcare campuses, two different roles. Directly across I-10, Abrazo Health opened the first phase of its own Buckeye medical campus in June 2025. The three-story, 60,000-square-foot Abrazo Medical Office Building at 21250 W. Roosevelt Street has developed primarily as a center for physician practices and specialty care. Services at the building include cardiology, orthopedics, sports medicine, brain and spine care, internal and primary medicine, urology, weight-loss services and physical therapy. Abrazo's latest update also highlights cardiology, orthopedics, sports medicine and neurology among the specialties available at the Verrado Way location. That makes the two campuses more complementary than identical - at least for now. Banner's November expansion will emphasize emergency care, primary care, imaging, laboratory services and endocrinology. Abrazo currently offers a broader collection of specialist practices at its Verrado Way building, particularly in cardiovascular, orthopedic, neurological and spine care. Abrazo's long-term plans for its 27-acre property have included additional outpatient services and an acute-care hospital, but its recent public updates do not identify a construction schedule or opening date for that future hospital. Healthcare becomes part of Verrado's growth story. For Verrado and Victory, the arrival of two expanding healthcare campuses near the community's primary freeway entrance offers several potential benefits. Residents gain more choices, shorter drives for many appointments and better access to care when time matters. Healthcare growth also brings physicians, nurses, technicians and other professional jobs closer to Buckeye while supporting the area's rapidly increasing population. There will still be services that require travel to a full hospital, particularly inpatient surgery, trauma care, intensive care and maternity care. But the healthcare landscape around Verrado is changing quickly. For years, the intersection of Verrado Way and I-10 was known mostly as the entrance to the community. With Banner expanding north of the freeway and Abrazo growing to the south, it is increasingly becoming one of Buckeye's most important centers for healthcare. For residents, that means something especially valuable: more care, more choices and more of both closer to home. Banner Health Center plus 20751 W. Market Street Buckeye, AZ 85396 623-463-5000 Planned opening: Nov. 16, 2026

Banner Urgent Care opens in north Phoenix.

Banner Urgent Care opens in north Phoenix. New location offers quick, convenient care for community. PHOENIX (Sept. 23, 2026) - Banner Health this week opened a new Banner Urgent Care clinic in north Phoenix, adding essential, accessible health care services for the community. The new clinic, located just east of Interstate 17 at 2525 West Carefree Highway, offers convenient care for non-emergencies like common illnesses, minor injuries, and other health issues that call for fast attention. Medical staff at the clinic are fully equipped to treat colds, flu, minor cuts and burns, sprains, strains, and other ailments. Other services also include flu vaccines, sports physicals, and X-ray exams to evaluate certain injuries. "We're excited to bring Banner Urgent Care's offerings to this growing community and help people and their families to remain safe and healthy," said Amanda Fisher, RN, director of Banner Urgent Care. "As Arizona's leading nonprofit, fully integrated health system, we're dedicated to preventing severe illness wherever possible, and our urgent care locations often play a key role in keeping people out of the hospital." Like all Banner Urgent Care facilities, the new clinic will also offer Valley fever diagnostic testing for patients who may be at risk or suspected of a positive case for the respiratory infection that is endemic to Arizona and the Southwest. To address the fact that Valley fever often goes undetected, Banner Urgent Care recently expanded its testing protocols to enhance detection and also potentially prevent the need for other repeated or unnecessary costly tests, another way Banner is reducing health spending for its patients. Patients can schedule a reservation by calling (623) 465-6020, scheduling online or walking in to the clinic, which is located at 2525 W. Carefree Highway, St. 156, Phoenix, AZ, 85085 and open Monday through Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. This location is also home to a Banner Occupational Health Clinic, which is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Patients can schedule an appointment by calling (602) 839-4046. Banner Health, Delta Dental of Arizona train dentists to better care for people with dementia.

Banner Health, Delta Dental of Arizona train dentists to better care for people with dementia. Partnership helps Arizona dental providers address a gap in dental care. PHOENIX (Sept. 21, 2026) - Banner Health, one of the nation's largest fully integrated nonprofit health systems, and Delta Dental of Arizona have joined forces in an innovative dental health initiative that prioritizes dignity, access and quality care to support patients and families facing Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. Reflecting a shared commitment to improving specialized health care delivery across Arizona, central to this initiative is the expansion of Banner's Dementia ECHO (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes) Program, a guided learning model connecting health care professionals with dementia specialists. In partnership with Delta Dental, free interactive workshops equip dental providers with practical, research-backed strategies from expert mentors - covering topics such as the link between oral health and dementia, dental care strategies, and communication and behavior techniques. Participants also can present real patient cases and receive personalized guidance from a multidisciplinary expert team. "This partnership exemplifies how mission-aligned community leadership can address a true gap in dental care," said Lori Nisson, Family and Community Services director at Banner Alzheimer's. "By combining clinical expertise with real-world, case-based learning, we're empowering local dental care providers with the tools and confidence needed to treat people living with dementia with high-quality, compassionate care. At the same time, this collaborative approach helps drive meaningful improvements across the broader health care community." As the number of people living with Alzheimer's and related dementias continues to grow alongside an aging population, early detection and thoughtful, specialized care have become increasingly important community needs. Recognizing that oral health is deeply connected to overall physical and brain health, the partnership expands Banner Alzheimer's Institute's dementia expertise beyond traditional clinical settings to offer practical, research-backed training to dental providers across Arizona. This initiative builds on a growing collaboration between Banner and Delta Dental of Arizona, which includes the Hospital Oral Care and Periodontal Disease Education (HOPE) program - an oral health protocol now active across 28 Banner acute-care facilities in six states. Together, these efforts reflect a shared belief that integrating dental and medical care leads to better outcomes for patients, particularly those in vulnerable populations. "Earlier this year, the Delta Dental of Arizona Foundation selected Banner Alzheimer's Foundation as the first-ever recipient of our Innovation Grant, a two-year, $100,000 investment created specifically to help bring unique ideas with the potential for real-world impact to life," said Barb Kozuh, executive director of the Delta Dental of Arizona Foundation. "Expanding the ECHO program to dental professionals is exactly that type of innovation, helping providers build the knowledge and confidence to better care for people living with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias while increasing access to compassionate, informed dental care for Arizona patients and families." Two workshops sponsored by Delta Dental will be available free for dental professionals from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.: Sept. 25 at Banner Sun Health Research Institute in Sun City, and Oct. 2 at Banner Desert Medical Center in Mesa.
