Requirements
  • A degree in a directly related specialized scientific field, or qualifying combined experience and education in place of the minimum education.
  • Previous specialized laboratory experience and knowledge of specialized laboratory equipment.
  • Working knowledge of laboratory procedures, techniques, and testing related to a specialized scientific field.
  • Strong communication and writing skills and the ability to work independently and in a dynamic team environment.
  • At least three years of experience, or qualifying combined education and experience in place of the minimum experience.
  • Knowledge of computer software for record maintenance and familiarity with facilities operations.
Responsibilities
  • Support cGMP laboratory and ancillary-space operations, qualification, maintenance and shutdown activities, risk assessments, root-cause analysis, corrective and preventive action implementation, and troubleshooting of building systems and equipment to meet environmental and operational requirements and applicable codes, regulations, government-agency requirements, and university directives.
  • Perform assigned repairs, emergency maintenance, and preventive maintenance on facilities, monitoring systems, and equipment; oversee and inspect outside contractors’ work when required.
  • Perform and support equipment commissioning, qualification, and validation, including factory and site acceptance testing, and maintain maintenance and repair records.
  • Perform moderate to complex laboratory procedures and testing using techniques and technology related to the specialized scientific field, such as preparing media formulations, producing or culturing microbiological materials, and performing ELISA plate testing.
  • In the Facilities Manager’s absence, supervise unit employees by scheduling, assigning, and prioritizing workload.
  • Prepare short-range facilities-use plans, assist with analyses of space and equipment requirements and usage allocation, and contribute to long-range planning.
  • Assist in developing and implementing deferred-maintenance and preventive-maintenance programs.
  • Monitor and analyze facilities expenses; assist with cost projections; reconcile expenses to university financial records and initiate correcting entries; assist with year-end closing activities; and provide information for management budget reports as assigned.
  • Coordinate with university departments, outside contractors, and vendors on facilities operations, maintenance, construction, and renovation projects.
  • Coordinate environmental health and safety programs, assist with safety inspections and provision of health and safety equipment, and maintain records for government and university regulatory compliance.
  • Coordinate security surveys and assist in resolving security concerns.
  • Recommend changes to facilities-access procedures for key issuance and record maintenance.
  • Conduct routine facilities maintenance inspections for deficiencies, safety hazards, and code violations, including lighting, temperatures, signage, housekeeping, and phone systems; inspect facility equipment and coordinate required repairs or purchases.
  • Coordinate construction and renovation projects and compile cost and status data for management reports.
  • Coordinate telecommunications projects for assigned facilities and, as applicable, develop and coordinate staff training programs.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested; duties may be added or changed.
