Requirements
  • Current UVA student status is required.
  • Familiarity with a programming language such as Bash, Python, R, Java, Lua, Julia, or Ruby is required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Attention to detail is required.
  • Ability to work within a team is required.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize assignments is required.
  • Commitment to in-person student group meetings once a week and additional meetings with the respective project lead as needed is required.
Responsibilities
  • Develop new teaching materials by converting tutorials written in Markdown into a series of YouTube videos and other media.
  • Assist with workshops by testing workshop examples, helping create and test attendee accounts, supporting software installation before workshops, and monitoring communications.
  • Update and maintain the Research Computing website, including FAQs, short HowTos, and wiki pages.
  • Install scientific software and containerized applications, perform benchmarking, and create documentation for tools such as R, RStudio, Jupyter kernels, machine learning, and bioinformatics tools.
  • Support Research Computing staff with consulting requests involving code efficiency and performance tasks.
  • Gather resource metrics, including user requests, workshop registration, resource utilization, consulting, and collaborations.
  • Support logistics and administrative tasks for the Data Analytics Center, Digital Technology Core, VA-WHPC program, and Research Computing outreach events, including organizing and publicizing community events and managing program social media posts.
  • Compute activities report data using Python or other programming skills.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with Markdown language and Git version control is a plus.
