Requirements
  • Over 5 years in software product management or development (including roles in quality assurance, development, technical program management, or product design), with at least 1 year in connected products preferred.
  • BA/BS in a technical field or equivalent experience; MBA is advantageous.
  • Advanced user of Jira or similar project management tools.
  • Hands-on experience with Agile methodologies and best practices.
  • Strong foundational knowledge of software development, including system architectures, programming languages, data structures, APIs, and cloud services.
  • Ability to rapidly understand complex technology, convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, and guide decisions on feasibility, design trade-offs, and cost implications.
  • In-depth experience with mobile technologies, connected Wi-Fi and Bluetooth devices, cloud services, and device firmware.
  • Dedicated to creating user-centered products.
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and drive clarity in high-pressure situations.
  • Strong belief in using data to understand user needs, assess product health, and drive product improvements.
  • Extensive experience with both major mobile platforms (iOS and Android).
  • Skilled in managing complex software platforms and product ecosystems, including coordinating cross-functional teams, ensuring platform scalability, and aligning product strategy with ecosystem growth.
  • Experienced in navigating dependencies across interconnected products and services to drive seamless user experiences and maximize ecosystem value.
Responsibilities
  • Adding new features and improvements to the Yale Access and Master Lock system, which brings together various product categories (smart locks, smart padlocks) together in software-driven experience built using iOS and Android mobile, backend data and firmware software technologies.
  • Leading innovation and driving end-to-end the launch of new products and experiences, with little direction, in collaboration with hardware category managers.
  • Serving as a software product owner on large scrum teams comprised of product designers, firmware, backend, mobile and quality assurance engineers.
  • Collaborating with engineering team members to influence system architecture and design.
  • Working closely with the teams bringing new products, new categories and new ecosystem features to market.
  • Collaborating with category managers, designers, and engineering partners to refine and develop platform features.
  • Working in an Agile environment, continuously reviewing business needs, refining priorities, outlining milestones and deliverables.
  • Partnering with stakeholders and internal customers across the organization to inform the product vision, strategy, features, and prioritization.
  • Developing, owning, and executing product plans for assigned initiatives.
  • Collaboratively defining and refining desirable outcomes and team OKRs for new features and improvements, including UX specifications, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
  • Prioritizing and maintaining the sprint backlog for assigned products.
  • Guiding the product functional discovery and design process based on an intimate knowledge of the users and technology, in close collaboration with product designers.
  • Developing and maintaining appropriate tracking and reporting of product performance post-launch to evaluate future investment.
