Requirements
  • 7+ years of experience in strategy, product, general management, technical program management, or business leadership roles.
  • Experience in SaaS or product-led organizations is non-negotiable.
  • Backgrounds in technical program management or close to engineering delivery are equally valued, as are consulting, investment banking, or private equity backgrounds — particularly where you've moved beyond analysis into driving decisions and outcomes.
  • Technical fluency: you're comfortable engaging directly with engineering and ML teams and following technical and delivery discussions, on top of navigating metrics and dashboards.
  • Strong commercial instinct and product judgment.
  • High ownership mindset.
  • Proven operational expertise: you have built or ran planning cadences, OKRs, or execution frameworks across complex, multi team environments, and improved them over time.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder skills: you are comfortable influencing senior leaders, challenging thinking constructively, and driving alignment across Product, Engineering, Growth, Data, and Operations.
  • An ability to operate in ambiguity with a strong bias for action and instinct for when to escalate, delegate, or drive things yourself, with the ability to move complex and critical initiatives forward, often navigating the new and unknown.
  • Clear and compelling communicator. You can simplify complex ideas into crisp narratives and decision briefs for senior audiences.
  • Highly efficient and proactive: Able to juggle priorities, manage competing demands, and stay calm under pressure.
Responsibilities
  • Act as a trusted thought partner across strategy and long-term direction for the Chief Algorithms Officer, bringing structure to the major bets across personalisation and ML/AI, and helping drive them into execution.
  • Bring structured thinking to trade-offs, sequencing, and investment decisions.
  • Represent the CAO: Step into product, technical, and cross-functional forums on behalf of the CAO, ensuring discussions are grounded in user impact, clear hypotheses, and defined success metrics.
  • Engage in technical architecture, delivery, and experiment reviews, following the substance, and surface the real issues, carrying a technically flavoured workstream end to end.
  • Build and drive new initiatives: stand up a regular user-insight and beta-testing cadence, establish a Canva Research brand, or explore other bigger swings to elevate Canva’s standing in the ML/AI research community.
  • Shape bets, pull in the right people, and push through to real impact with cross-cutting project management.
  • Drive planning and operational rhythm: support key business cadences like QBRs and MBRs, and goal planning; build context and alignment across the leadership bench, including document creation and facilitation.
  • Roadmap visibility and execution: keep the org's roadmap, dependencies, and performance tracking tight, so there's a clear view of what's driving user value and where course correction is required.
  • Triage and prioritisation: act as the first point of contact for inbound requests, founder asks, new initiatives, and escalations; evaluate opportunities through an impact lens, and ensure focus remains on the highest leverage work.
  • Strong people connector: build strong and trusted relationships with key stakeholders across the business to ensure visibility and alignment between the org and rest of Canva.
  • Own the day to day: in partnership with the Admin BP, help ensure the CAO’s time is spent where it matters most by triaging meetings, shaping agendas, and creating space for high-impact work.
  • Zoom in and out: move between long term vision and operational detail; use data, user insights, and performance trends to inform decisions while keeping sight of Canva’s broader growth strategy.

Canva is an online, drag‑and‑drop graphic design platform for creating visuals like presentations, social media graphics, posters, logos, and videos. It uses a large library of templates, stock photos and videos, fonts, and AI-powered features (Magic Studio), plus a freemium model with paid plans for additional assets and collaboration tools; Canva Print lets users order physical copies. The company differentiates itself by focusing on ease of use for non-designers and expanding its assets and capabilities through acquisitions such as Pexels, Pixabay, Flourish, and the Affinity suite. Its goal is to help anyone create professional-looking visuals quickly and collaboratively, without needing advanced design skills.

Canva unveils AI 2.0 to protect $42B valuation amid tech disruption

Canva has launched Canva AI 2.0, a major product reboot designed to protect its $42 billion valuation in the AI era. The new tools allow the company's 265 million monthly users to generate designs using conversational language rather than templates—for instance, requesting a colourful 12-page Morocco trip planning deck that the AI agent builds and iterates. Co-founders Melanie Perkins and Cliff Obrecht unveiled the workflow tools at an event in Sydney in early April, with the product released on Thursday. The rebuild represents Canva's strategy to position itself as a disruptor rather than a target amid concerns that AI could undermine traditional software business models. The move signals Canva's push to remain competitive as AI transforms the design platform landscape.

PayPal brings payment links to Canva's 265M users as social commerce nears $1T

PayPal has launched Payment Links directly within Canva, enabling the platform's 265 million monthly users to accept payments from their designs without external websites or complex e-commerce tools. The integration allows creators and small businesses to add PayPal checkout, including Venmo and PayPal Pay Later, to digital or printed content. The feature addresses growing demand for social commerce, projected to exceed $1 trillion by 2028. Users can generate payment links or QR codes, create customised checkout pages, and accept payments across approximately 200 markets in multiple currencies. The app is available globally through Canva Marketplace. PayPal will showcase the integration at Canva Create on 16 April 2026 in Los Angeles, where it serves as Official Payment Partner.
